Pending axle failure?

I've been experiencing vibration through the accelerator under throttle when the suspension unloads. ('97 GLE, 116k) I noticed it a few months ago and it has gotten steadily worse to the point of occuring almost all the time. Its not horrible but its definitely apparent and happens any time I'm accelerating and the suspension unloads even slightly (like over the crests of small hills, bumps, etc). Since I can't use the org's search function I googled it and the general concensus from several sites was the the axles could be failing.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem or had axle failure and could tell me if I'm on track or way off base? In the beginning it was barely noticeable but now its pretty apparent and I would like to nip this problem in the bud before catastrophic failure. (Which is what I usually wait for.)

Any suggestions/experiences are greatly appreciated.

Usually when axles are going out they will click, and the more often the click the closer to the end there getting.

What exactly do you mean the suspension unloads?

Doesn't seem like the axles, are your cv boots torn or recently replaced? If not your axles are probaly ok. maybe the engine mounts??

When I say when the suspension unloads I mean when the car rolls over a bump and the weight comes up off of the suspension (ie the struts extend) before the weight comes back down on the suspension and causes the struts to compress.

I've also heard that motor mounts could be the culprit, do you think this could be the case? The car does have 116k on it. Is there any other way to tell if the mounts are bad?

It is not your axles. I just replaced both my axles, I have this problem as well. I think it could be several possibilities.

I have 17s, and the guy before me never got an alignment done so my tires are feathering a little bit. The vibration use to be at low speeds now it happens more when I shift into 2nd then get back on the throttle.

You may need new tires.

But I as well think it maybe motor mounts, but I am not quite sure. I'd say take a look at your tires first. Also while your at it take a look at the cv joints see if the boots are ripped or anything.

I had this problem for a few months and it got progressively worse . Basically a shudder while accelerating. When accelerating on a smooth road, at highway speeds, the severity
of the vibration varied when going over slight dips or highspots. Absolutely no
clicks or clunks while doing tight turns in parking lots as is typically the case with a
bad cv joint. Various troubleshooting guides pointed to possible inner cv joint wear.
Also no rips in cv boots .Since I have lifetime axles from Autozone , I decided to change them both.
Passenger side seemed alright but drivers side axle had a little play. Since I changed them ,the vibration is completely gone.
