KYB Dustboot Fitment

Alright, I know every other thread about KYB boots says that they fit like stock, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I'm trying to get this right the first time, so my question is: on the rear, using the correct KYB dustboot, SB108, how far down on the strut piston does the boot ride? loosely on the very top part, or very tight on the part where the piston becomes a larger diameter? Also, if you have installed these, did you zip-tie it and where?

I'm just not sureif it is suppossed to be pushed down on the piston that far because when I try, the piston just compresses.

HELP!!

Thanks.

i have kyb dust boots on tokico illuminas, and i believe what i did was pull the boot down so it covered the whole shaft. so on the bottom of the dustboot, if i remember correctly, there are 2 small slits and the boot itself is ridged, so i pulled the end ridge over part of the shock so the boot should cover up all the shiny piston part

thanks, so you ziptied it? I'm still wondering how far down to push the bumpstop, can anyone help? does it sit loose on the upper part, or is it really snug on the larger part just a few inches down?

please help soon! I have to get this done tonight.

I assume this is the first strut/shock your on? If so you could pull the other side and examine to see where it is as a reference. Just an idea.

well, i did the front just fine with the KYB boots and now I just pulled off both of the rear. I was just out there again trying to get it together but still, i don't understand it. if the bumpstop is not pushed/forced down far enough, there is not enough piston/threads for everything to be put on above it. unless there is something that is not supposed to be put back on, I JUST DON'T GET IT!!! i'm retarded or something. can someone just walk me throught it? any info is appreciated!

apply a little wd40 or any kind of lubricant on the piston(or the bumpstop) and push the bumpstop down until everything fits.

Soapy water makes the bump stop slide very easily, You can put it exactly where you want it then. I ran into this same situation then saw the directions that suggested soapy water.

I was running into this problem as well. I pushed down on my kyb bump stops until it snapped on for the rears. There's a little rim on my struts at the end of the threads and the bump's snapped on there. I have tokico hp's if that matters. I used nissan boots on the front they seem to be much better quality not to mention they fit correctly.
