vibration past 100 mph

I was crusing along the highway since i saw another maxima going really fast. Of coursei have 97 stock and the other guy had a 2003 maxima with stick shift. So he killed me. But anyways once I passed 100 mph, my car started to really vibrate a lot. I have gone 120 on my max without any problems. I did increase my idle air control valve to about 950 rpm.

one more thing. When I tried to floor my maxima, for some reason my the rpm didnt wanna go over 4000 rpm. It eventually did but took a while.

well, my maxima vibrates when I go over 90 mph or so.... It does have plenty of acceleration left, but by no means is it as stable as a beamer/porsche at those speeds.

Are you talking engine vibration or do the wheels need to be balanced? Are you saying you set your idle at 950 rpm? If so, reset it to 600 to 700 rpm where it should be.

its mostl ikely the tires.....also could be tire pressure. also it helps when you tell them what tire pressure you want before they balance it...

strange....

my car vibrates at 80mph, but is stable as all hell when it's anything past that mark. But my vibration is a known problem with the brand of tires I run. Falken ZE512's.

if its not an engine vibration then I would say your wheels are out of balance or you have some choice tires. If it is an engine vibration, it could be the maf flaking out or a misfire.

*also I see you are from Richmond VA, we have a meet coming up there this month. Check out the Local forums United States>>DC area and check it out.

sorry, kinda a side note, but my car also vibrates slightly at hight speeds, but a lot while under hard braking. is that from warped rotors? (how easily do they really warp?)

i say i could be tires... make sure to close all the windows for reduced drag too.

mabe increasing downforce will reduce this problem? i myself get alittle of this but i need new tires and i belive thats my only problem, wont know 100% until i get them tho.

engine mounts are the only other thing i could think of. replace them with poly ones.?

i think you have to put some miles on them first. when i was searching for my tires i know that they were hard to balance right or something like that

About a yr ago, or maybe a little bit more, when those tires came out, alot of people were having vibration and balancing problems. There were alot of reports of this issue, and I was one of them who experienced it. I still have them on the car. Over time, it got better, but it's still noticable. I'm sure they corrected this problem by now.

yeah thanks guys, I think its the tire, because I have about 15% tread on em. I'm gonna change em soon, plus I didn't put air in them since November, so I should do it soon. Mine are the Bridgestone Touring Tires.
