Missing air box/resonator?
I wish I had a pic so I can show exactly what I'm talking about. But I don't, so I'll try to explain it as best as I can.
My stock air box went back into my car a few weeks ago. Everything seems fine and the car is running great. But last week, I noticed a half inch vacume hose that was not connected to anything. Been racking my brain for an answer since then. Yesterday I saw a pic of a 4th gen engine bay that was "truly" stock, and noticed I was missing something. Right behind the intake snorkel, there was a small black air box of sorts, could be some sort of resonator, I don't know. If you stand in front of your car and look into the engine bay, this object is located right next to the coil cover, right behind the snorkel. I figure that's where my hose is supposed to plug into.
What the hell is this thing and what does it do?
Any adverse effects to my engine? I don't sense any.

Just wanted to find out the purpose of that object first. If need be I'm sure I can find it at a local junk yard and save you the trouble of running to the post office to mail it to me.
Not a problem, you don't even need it anyway it's just there to quiet things down a little bit so if you're fine with the sound level and your car is running fine then I wouldn't even worry about putting it back in there. let me know if you're going to replace it though and can't find one at the junkyard though. I live 1 minute from my post office

I can just run up there. You coming to the RI meet this weekend? There's a Natick meet next weekend as well. I've been trying to spread the word on these MA meets. Check the regional forums for info if you're interested in attending one of these.
Haha sweet! I didnt even realize you were from MA. Hmm, I can't make the RI meet, but I should def be able to make the Natick one. Natck is only like 20 min from here...maybe 30, kinda depends on traffic usually. When is it (Friday Saturday or Sunday), what time, and where? Let me know, you can PM me if you'd like, thanks
As previously noted, that box is just there to reduce the noise level on the intake. When I removed my intake snorkel, I also removed this box and the hose that connects it to the resonator, and then put black duct tape over the hole on the resonator where the hose would fit on.
From what research tells me, this box isn't on all 4th gens. It seems they got rid of it at some point and placed a sensor or something in that spot instead.

early 4th gen maximas (95 only i belive) and some i30's have the extra resonator. it actually connects to the resonator thats often replaced by a mid pipe. I havent seen too many of these set ups, only one in person. Im not sure if those models have the resonator box under the battery. Any how you dont need it either way. You have a 99 any how. The one lonely hose you have is most likely the transmission breather. trace it to the other end, and if indded it goes to the tranny just leave it be.
