Bad Timing caused by????

My car has bad timing. It has trouble starting and the idle goes up and down frequently. I am not sure what can cause bad timing besides the cam sensor and crank sensor. Is there any way I can test these things with out buying a new one?

How do you know its off?? Did you check it with a timing light?? The cam and BOTH crank sensors control the timing. Check the resistance of each sensor with a multimeter. The specs can be found in a haynes/chiltons guide. Try adjusting the base idle.

Youre wasting your time! IF you checked everything and there is no improper signal being detected by the ECM, then switching things will accomplish nothing.

Your problem is something else. Its probably fuel retalted. Did you ever check the fuel pressure like I told you too in the other thread?? Try spraying some carb & choke cleaner in the throttle body and then start it up.

are you missing? if your car is running rough pull one plug wire out at a time.if it stumbles put it back in and pull the next. if you pull one out and there is no change in the way the car runs thats the cylinder thats missing.

According to the Haynes shop manual, a hunting idle speed is definately an indication of a bad TPS.
It can also be caused by a faulty IACV, MAF or a vacuum leak.

Get a shop manual it will help you troubleshoot your car.
