ko sensor replacement help....(did read how to's :) )

I just can't get it loose.....I dented/notched a living crap out of the u-joint, but still no luck.. ..it seems like the 1/4" 14" extension flexes too much, but judging by the notches on the u-joint, I am twisting hard enough.....any additional tips? any one had any luck with 3/8" extension, should be thicker, so perhaps would transfer more force to the bolt.....I am looking for ny tips you got...any help is apreciated guys

Try a 1/2". When I did my KS, I couldn't break the bolt lose until I changed to a larger setup. So you got the right idea. Bigger is better.

hmmm 1/2" drive? Maybe I meant 3/8".
Anyways, use the bigger one out of the common setup.

bigger maybe

I tried the first time with a 3/8" drive socket to a 3/8" to 1/4"adapter to a 1/4" swivel, to a 14" extention to a 1/4 to 3/8 inch adapter to a 3/8" rachet. (lots of adapters ) I broke the swivel. I then bought off EBAY (the nearest real Sears store is 150 miles away) the proper 1/4" drive swivel sockets. the swivel socket went to the 14" extension to the 1/4" to 3/8" adapter to the 3/8" drive rachet. That worked perfectly.

I also tried 3/8" drive swivel sockets with 3/8" drive extention and could not get a good angle. The 1/4" swivel sockets are the way to go.

Now if my car would start I'd be happy.

i'll try to go to 3/8" extension....or may be 1/4" flex socket as well...may be i'll get a flex socket, it should improve my angle a bit....does any one have a cheaper source for these? craftsmen is like 10 bucks a piece...

how big of a deal is to take the intake manaifold off? is there a write up?

go to sears

If you have a real sears store that sells individual flex sockets it will cost you under $10.00. Taking off the manifold looks like an hour at least.

No need to take off the manifold to change the KS. You just need to be able to fish you hands under the lower IM. I know someone that can change them out in 8 minutes and i had him do mine because my hands are way to big for this job.

I bought a craftsman flex joint and a 12" extension, it was much harder than expected to get the bolt loose, but I did get it loose quickly, and at the same time the socket flew out from the rachet and I had to get my handy mechanical claw to snag it back out. But it loosened the bolt, and it was easy from there.. until I had to try and put the new KS back in that is..

guys, my car is failing the emissions on the nox side and getting a knock sensor warning on their computers, but no engine light. Would a malfunctioning KS create a lean condition in the motor and make it fail emissions? Also, where exactly is the KS? Is it behind the Intake Exhaust or directly under the IM and where are you fishing the extension w/ flex socket in to get at it? Thanks.

the KO sensor is inside the "V"......check out the "how to" sticky for the links to a pretty good write ups...as far as you failing the emission, i think that if you have any error code you will fail...as far as running lean, you could be or not, as far as i understand w/o a working KO sensor, the ecu just goes to the "safe" fuel map

I used 3/8 sockets, swivel, and ratchet + a 2 foot pipe slid over the handle of the ratchet for leverage. About taking off the intake manifold... It's a bigger job than it looks, took me a couple hours just to get the upper plenum off a week ago for a cleaning. Lots of wires and hoses to label and disconnect.

I just jammed my hand under the manifold (cutting it up nicely) and took a stubby wrench to the KS. I had it out and the new one in including a new harness in under 15 minutes
