Sunroof Acting Up!

Just recently, my sunroof has been deciding not to close completely. It will open all the way just fine and close almost all the way, but when it gets to the point where it is about to lift up the back to become flush with the car, it just stops. the motor continues to whirr, but sounds stressed. What is keeping it from closing up tight?

I took off the wind deflector and checked that bar that sits at the front of the opening and moves up and down as the window opens and closes, and no problems there. I don't know where else to even check for something jamming it up or whatever.

any help or ideas of things to look for would rock.
thanks

(I tried pushing on the front and rear, up, down, forward, backward, and nothin budged.)

one of the cables is probably broken or dislodged. You may have to go in and do major surgery. It's in the stickies and HEY, it's in a current thread HERE:

Sorry. I meant to say that the sunroof sticky thread link is IN that other thread. Was too lazy to go find it. Here's the sticky..

My sunroof is not working either and I didn't hear anything pop. The motor is fine. It would retract, but would NOT come back or close at all. I had to close it by hand and force it into the fully closed position.

did it work again once you got it closed and back on track, or do you still need to repair it? thanks for the link

I still need to repair it. I'm not looking forward to it and am procrastinating big time. I'll be getting the rebuild kit next week and then me and a firend will take a day to work on it. Spending $500 to fix it ain't cool.

well. it seems the kit is pretty cheap, and basically you're rebuilding the sunroof, so it should work. I don't think there are any real issues except just taking that stuff. We plan to go slow and look at everything before taking it apart.
I tried two places around here (not the dealer). One said $400 when he looked at it and the other (a Nissan only shop) said $500 without looking at it...

So once you closed the sun roof by hand, it was possible to push it back up into the completely sealed position by hand as well??

It is possible, but it takes some effort, and it is possible to break the part of the mechanism that TILTS teh roof up. My boy had closed it for me, and then two weeks later on a real nice day my brain locked up and I opened it. I ended up breaking the mechanism, but I did get it closed.
