Someone painted my car, I have some questions
I went on a trip to Hawaii and some of my family/friends decided to paint my car while I was gone. Normally I'd have a "cool, they painted my car and i didn't spend a dime" reaction. But the shock of coming home to a project car like mine in this state of painted-but-not-buffed is overwhelming.
So basically after circling the car over and over again.. I wonder, should they have painted that rubber trim on the door panels?
Also, what the hell were they thinking when they had the guy spray my sub box with car paint. That was stupid as hell, it looks like ****.
Well, anyway I guess I just have that one question... it is really shiny though, and the hood is no longer primer grey. that's cool.

Well, I had been meaning to get the hood and front bumper painted some body work I did to it this last winter. I was on vacation and they just took the car and got it painted by a shop (the shop is owned by a family friend), they got a pretty good deal I guess if the paints any good. But as someone who has never researched paint that much I do not know if it is any good just looking at it now without the full story on what it went through. Is there anything I can do to make sure the paint is good? Don't worry, I'll have pics as soon as it's finished-finished. Right now it's awaiting some work that should be done on Saturday.
I believe once they have the DJ2 paint code they can match the paint fairly easily as its computerized these days. Take the car out in the bright sunshine and look at it from an angle.
I have had bodywork done in the past and they matched my Black Emerald paint perfectly.
Make sure they have clearcoated it after they painted it.

Funny you should say that, mine is Black Emerald as well. Actually, what happened was my family decided to paint the WHOLE car instead of just those two parts. It seems to match fairly well to what it was before, not having a side-by-side comparison makes it hard to be certain. It's definitely shiny... can see my reflection in every part of it and it seems that it's a good paint job (should be very good once they wetsand everything I'd think).
I only want to be sure that the paint isn't going to chip away in a year or even sooner. I doubt it, but you hear all these horror stories about cheap paint jobs...

yeah, it is crazy, i was almost pissed. then it wore off and i was happy with the result. well, all will be decided by the final product i guess. should be able to polish it up VERY nicely indeed. Now I feel like I need some rims. What I'd really like though are some five spokes from the 97 and up 4th gens.

Yeah, they are going to wet sand and buff the clear coat. Paint doesn't go on perfect no matter how well the prep work was done. I have done a lot of research lately so sorry to sound like someone who asked questions that he already had his own answers to. I'm very happy with it right now, it looks nice. I'm looking to get some clear corners and somehow change my tail lights... maybe tint... maybe red/clears but the latter is a bit expensive. I'd also like a drop but most of this stuff is too expensive for me so I'll probably end up doing some really cheap mods and keeping the car clean. Might not even be able to afford the clears.
