They are well known for malfunctions. On mine the display would go off for 80% of my drive and only come back on when I first start the car and then the CD player stopped working completely. I replaced it with my Sony Deck. The Bose is pure crap. Speakers are fine.

I don't like the Bose Headunit. Mine has some problems, the display will just shut off sometimes and forget playing a CD. Speakers are decent.
The only other thing is the paint....

But I love my 29mpg no matter how hard I rape it. (spends a good portion of time >100)

Plus I LOVE how reliable it is! Compared to my old 95 Chrysler Cirrus... Everything went out, the computer, and even ALL OF THE GAGUES. and we babied that car...

Long live my maxima!

trunk latch

My friend showed me this the other day. The latch that holds the trunk lid closed,(the actual latch on inside right in the midldle) underneath it there is some kind of lever, if you lift it up it disables the trunk button on the door and the only way to open the trunk is with the key.
His 5th gen has it and he went to try it with mine and bada boom my 95 has one too, I'm gonna guess every other 4th and 5th gen has one.

Yes, Bose HU is crap, speakers produce muddy bass, you can't replace them without replace everything else. Who the heell decided 1-2ohm speakers would be best???

29 mpg no matter how you drive it? Are you sure your math is right? Were you schooled in Michigan or something?

I can honestly live with the overhyped stereo on my budget, but the 4x4 look does get on my nerves at times. Paint is too wimpy, but looks nice when clean. Auto trans is schitzo.

Other than that my baby has every option available and I love her dearly. True love overlooks her faults.

Tranz-

Maybe the 95-96 only had one.

LOL. Another applicable saying: True beauty lies within.

Remember the movie Liar Liar? Jim Carrey then responds, "Oh, that's something ugly people say."

You need 15 posts before you can start a thread. When you reach 15, there will be like a 1/2 hour wait until you're cleared to start threads.

Keep hope alive!

OK, why is my trunk button a lever on the floor? Is there a button I don't know about?

Any write up to move the trunk button to where the lighter is? Maybe that trunk button can be mod to open the door instead... oh no... one of the ppl here said he popped the trunk when he was driving... that could be dangerous...

Not hating, but just noticed that mods and part are too much $$$, or i just have the wrong hobby. Not much experience with max, but still glad to have max so far.

1 thing i hate is that the cup holders dont fit a 20 oz bottle in it the correct way. I dont understand why the GLE have the chrome handles on the outside. I mean why make your top of the line trim look excatly like your base model.

I love the car. Actually i like the BOSE. its decent amount of sound coming from it. i dont blast it. The trunk button is pretty kool. It goofs people up when i tell them to pop it for me.

Actually I bet you could do that pretty easily. Just need to buy a button from radio shack Just cut the connections off of that button and connect them to the new button. Routing the wires would be the only semi difficult part, and that could be made easier by removing the shifter trim and a few other components.

Thank you so much, I though my trunk door is broken! Now do I need to unscrew something to get to it?

What's so bad is that the damn thing is unreliable. Just today, I socked the HU good and hard with a closed fist and now the display is working again.

HAHA. The closed fist method has always fixed my stereo problems. It's only a temp fix though. At some point, knocking it around will stop working. If it's just the display, take it apart, see if anything is lose.

Take that ***** out of ur pocket and ur button, which is at least 6 inches above ur legs and at least 3-4 inches away wont pop open...u can also disconnect it and use the remote. Aside from that, its comfortable having the button there because its easier to open the trunk from outside by sticking ur hand inside when the window is open.

Wow. It's funny how you knew instinctively, a ***** in the pocket would trigger the trunk release. With dimensional measurements and all.

i dont hate my maxima, but i sure as hell dislike many things with a passion!!! first..bose, i like bose but not this one cuz it dont work no more, once i drove from florida to virginia with no sound at all!! actually, im soundless now. second, everytime i make one code go away, another pops up. third, ever since i put on my y-pipe, which is suppose to be the best "bang for the buck", i have spent more "bucks" fixing stupid crap like more codes...fourth, my car rattles. fifth, codes 0705 and 0903...sixth, y did they make every maxima trim have the same motor and power...couldn they put a turbo in the se or something...and last but not least i have the slowest 4th gen in the world!! but like i said, i love my maxima cuz im working on all of my 7 problems!

I do the reach-in ALL the time when getting out the tire iron or whatever.

I also really like the way you can just open your door from the bottom and open the trunk with your thumb all in one fluid motion.

My main prob is the paint. I kill myself washing it only to see new blemishes in the process

My trunk lever is on the floor. Pull up to open the trunk, press it down to open the gas cap. Is mine the only one like this? I have no button on the door for the trunk, pics to come!

thats the way accords are, and i think its gay, the trunk makes it so that you can do it easily if your out of the car, dont have to open door, bend down, pull, then close door, all to open trunk. oh and on the last page someone said to cut the wire for the truck button and move it, but i doubt it has a cable since its on the door, it could, but it would need to have slack so door could close.

The location of the trunk button isn't that bad, especially when your outside the vehicle and just reach through and push it. Seems quicker to me and if your inside as you push your door open it's right there. Not like some older cars where it was located in the glove box, hated that for sure. You could always have a car that doesn't have one at all...

Hate the fact that the max just dents too easily.Hate all the chips in my hood and my windshield from those damn trucks that haul gravel and spit rocks at you. Just want to seriously hurt some of those guys for the damage they cause and they probably laugh as you pass them too.

But all in all I would buy and drive another max any day.

No complaints about the Max other than paint. The car has been virtually trouble free since day 1 and I anticipate it to remain that way until I get higher up in mileage, as i'm only approaching 60K.

I hate that it sucks compared to my 6th Gen. The 6th Gen I hardly get to drive because my dad always wakes up before me and takes it to work.

Thing I don't like about the car has to be the Black Leather in the middle of the summer, all I can say is OUCH!!!

the bose is good for low and medium vol. , but you blast it and it sounds horrible. the 96 version is much better trust me. and it sounds better than some pos ones. we had a 94 suburban that we blasted all the time for an excuse to get a new stereo and speakers, now that sounded bad. its still good though for a stereo on an orginally mid $20,000 car

I hated numerous things ABOUT my 3rd gen, but I LOVED my car. The Bose in there was probably the best I've ever heard until I put my new Head Unit in my current car and now that's the best Bose I've ever heard, though, in general, they're by no means the "****". The paint and the ease of which you could put a dent in it sucked. DURASTEEL my ***! I don't regret the countless hours I spent on maintaining it. I also despised the POS tranny that was in it, when it worked, it was a blast, but most of the time it was screwed. I think I dropped over $3000 on that tranny between gear replacements (1st and 2nd), clutches, synchronizers, etc. Those are big complaints, but they're the only ones I had about the car.
