How to clean Headlight lens?

Is there anyway to clean my dirty headlight lens. It looks yellow and someone made a comment on it yesterday. I know that I could probably use this as an excuse to buy the clear ones from the 99's, but I wanted to see if there was an innexpensive solution here first.

You can find plastic polish at the local parts store. They sell a lens polish or if you find the polish for the plastic windows for a jeep or convertible it works the same. Should be under $10.00

you don't have to take off the headlights, its only the outside. if you have to take it off that means you have to open up the head lights. unless you had a cracked headlight housing, usually not that much dirt and grime can get INSIDE the headlight

so do you have the glass 95/96 headlights? thats what it sounds like. im not too sure about those- haven't really had any experience there, but if you have the plastic lense like the 97/99s then i suggest miguire's #17 clear plastic polish. i got it at a specialty paint store for like $7, but i've seen it since at checker and auto zone for around $10. it works wonders and i use it all the time. its really great the more you use it the cleaner they come. its amazing

thats the one i used the miguires what ever the spelling is .first wash the lens with soapy water then dry it then i just put some on the exterior let it sit for acouple of seconds and wiped it off then i did another coat just to do it but the first coat basically did the job.

I saw a thread once that mentioned "brake fluid", I'm not sure if it was a joke or if it really works. anyone recall anything like this?

you can use nev-r-dull as well.

you apply it, let it sit for 15 mins, then it will look cloudy. then buff it off with a towel

I use SimiChrome, a mildly abrasive chrome cleaner/polish -- it takes out not only the hazy, yellowed outer layer of the plastic lens, but also the hundreds of tiny sand pits that scatter and dim the light output. Works OK by hand, but even better with a buffer, where the mild heat generated softens the plastic and helps smooth out the sand pits.
