Choosing the Right Brake stuff
Choosing the Right Brake stuff
Time for me to change my brake pads and discs! Problem is, i dont know a single thing about brakes except how to change the pads and discs. Any recomendations for pads and rotors? My brake budget right now is under $150. Im a cheap bastage. I've been looking around tirerack.com but i dont know what to get. The Satisfied Pro Perform OEM looks like decent budget pads. The cheapest rotors they have are Brembo(surprisingly). Dusting I really don't mind as long as it is not over the top (clean for over 1 1/2 weeks to 2 weeks is fine). Squeaking though, I shouldn't have to worry about. I'm eliminating Raybestos QS cause of excessive dusting, Akebono cause I hear it's performance isnt up to OEM, and Hawks cause they're too damn expensive. Thanks for any help and recommendations!
Also, this may sound random because after all this is a thread about brakes but: I want to get new rims (the honeycombs make me wanna vomit) that are 17". I'm not going to lower the car for now because the suspension systems are quite expensive and I have to save up first and I was wondering if getting the 17's would affect my tach and would require adjustment. Thanks!

Rims wont affect anything aslong as you pick out tires with the same overall diameter. As for brakes, I have the Raybestos QS and have noticed almost no dusting at all. My only complaint with them is that there is a very very small squeaking sound if I'm moving for slowly and lightly touching the brakes. Other than that, they've been good to me. I dont know much as far as new discs, because I just bought 13" Cobra rotors, so I cant help you with stock rotors. Good luck to you.

Brembo blanks and oem pads. That should be within your budget and perform pretty well. That is if you're doing just the fronts. Pads dust, no avoiding that. I believe 17's will not throw off your speedo, not alot anyways. I'm running falken 225/45/17's on some 17" rims. The speedo is 3 mph faster than the actual speed of the car.
