Difference in the CALI Spec Max

Just wondering what is the HP difference is when you add a Y-pipe to a CALI-Spec as opposed to a Federal spec. I have read all the stickies but not much is discussed about the CALI- spec maxima and what to do if you have that type of exhaust. I recently discovered that my car was CALI spec and now I am reluctant to purchase a Y-pipe. What can be done to the catalytic converter that is on the exhuast manifold that can't be removed? What would it take to convert it so I could use just the normal Fed spec Y pipe?

Actually do I just purchase headers? I read that it is not worth it because they are so hard to install.

Honestly I'm not sure what's different about Cali spec, but I don't think there'd be a difference in HP gained compared to Fed spec as far as installing a y-pipe. Headers are worth some decent gains.

There is a pre-cat built into the header I just read, with a FED you remove 2 cats where as the Cali you only remove 1. It looks like I will need headers, but I am wondering if you change the headers would a Fed spec Y pipe then line up?
