96 SE 5 speed transmission

I have asked this question once before but I didn't get a responce. Will a 5 speed transmission out of a 3rd gen work in a 4th gen? It's the same engine block so shouldn't it bolt right up?

nope, VE and VQ blocks are different. The 4th and 5th gen blocks are the same. The 4th gen is the VQ30DE, and the 5th gen is the VQ30DE-K.

Thanks for responding. Well then I need to search for a 4th or 5th gen 5 speed to replace the one in my car. Has anyone on this site rebuilt one? If so are they hard to rebuild?

The engine block is in no way the same, however the transmissions are the same part number. That may or may not mean the bell housing will bolt up though.

BTW the title of your post makes no sense. You are asking about a 3rd gen transmission on a 4th gen and yet you put "96 SE 5spd transmission" as your title. That has nothing to do with your topic. You should have put "Will a 3rd gen trans work in my 4th gen" so that people who are just browsing that might know something about this will bother to look. Your thread really has nothing to do with a 96 SE maxima transmission.

I didn't post is that way because I already posted one like that I got no response from anyone. The 5 spd trans in my 96 is bad. I have a 5spd trans laying around from my 90 SE when I replaced that one. I was hoping to rebuilt the 90 one and put it in my car. But I wanted to know if the trans would bolt up to a later block.
