URGENT !!HELP NEEDED!! Trans issue??
Hi all,
I was hoping to get some quick help from the members here regarding an issue with my wifes '99 Maxima SE (Auto w/ 95K miles).
A couple of weeks ago, the service engine light came on and since then the car feels noticeably sluggish when moving through the lower gears. At highway speeds it seems to be ok except that the RPM's remain high (around 3.3K at 65mph). Also my O/D light does not come on anymore on the dash.
I took it to a service shop that looked up the codes - P0600, P1605, and P0325 (KnockSensor) and said that could not do anything with it since it was a transmission issue (apparently the TCM communication with the ECM is not working)
Called the dealership and they said that they will run their own diagnostics and if it is the same code, then in all likelihood it will require a replacement of the ECM!! Cost would be around $1300 or so as the ECM itself is $900...
Having searched the stickies in the forum, I was unable to locate anything specific to these codes and am hoping that someone might be able to shed some light on this issue:
-as to what the possible causes/fixes might be? (best/worst case);
-is it an ASAP fix or can it wait?
-do I run the risk of further damage or does the transmission go into a fail-safe mode which will prevent further damage?
I have an appt. to take the car in to the dealer tomorrow so hopefully I can get some feedback from you all before then - I'd like to be more educated on the issue before dealing with the dealers service shop..
Thanks in advance guys!

It sounds like the transmission and control unit are already in fail safe mode.
Reset / clear the error codes from the ECU. See if that returns normal operation and gets you out of fail safe mode. If that doesn't work it might not be a bad idea to let Nissan run diagnostics on the car, they might be able to pinpoint exactly what the cause is.
