Hi,

I want to replace the headlamp bulbs in my 95 GLE with something more power and blue without killing anything. What should I get and what details am I looking out for?

blue lights provide less visibility than regular H4 halogen bulbs.

Try some quality PIAA H4 bulbs or perhaps some Sylvania Silverstars - for whiter light.

More power and blue: Unless it's H.I.D. it's an oxymoron. Silverstars are good but probably not the blue you're looking for. Good on ebay and get some cheap blue bulbs, they're ricey and dim, but hey at least you'll think they look brighter.

As far as brightness I think silverstars of the best. (IMO). The only reason why I said it's an oxymoron for blue/bright is because of the type of bulb that the max takes. When I had my camry it took 9006 for lowbeams and 9005 for high beams. So you could modify a 9005 bulb to fit in the highbeam slot and it was much brighter.
Just make sure you don't get those bulbs that are very high wattage because you can and will melt your wiring harness. Trust me, I melted 3 of them.

 

sorry to butt in on your thread, but i figured it'd be the place to ask since it's a little on topic. about a year and a half ago, i purchased some blue tinted lights from pepboys and had those in for a couple months. stupidest mistake ever! eventually, my left bulb burnt out and i decided to buy piaa superwhites. well, when i went to take the old left bulb out, the inside of the wiring harness had melted a bit from the high wattage. i've never gotten around to replacing it, but now it's really bothering me cuz the left light is noticeably dimmer than my right one. i still have the piaa bulbs in there and the right one looks great, but i'd like the left one to match the brightness. so my question is(finally), where's a good place to buy replacements wiring harnesses and are they hard to install? is there a writeup anywhere to replacing them? thanks.

 

Well I never really liked Silverstars...They weren't really that much brighter. I believe that PIAA are pretty decent.I'm currently using KYO SuperBeam EX 9004 Standard wattage and they work pretty nicely for 6 months now...Well maybe 5.However, they don't seem too bright on normal streets with lighting but in my works parking lot...I could definitely light up the cars parked 5 rows away from me. Although the KYO's aren't DOT approved, but honestly whose going to notice when you have crazy Bimmers on the streets.

I was thinking of getting the PIAA's. I've heard lots of people on here say the Silverstars burn out frequently.

 

Get some Luminics Hyperwhites. They're very white with a very very slight tint of blue in them. Much like the lights on a Mercedes. I use Luminics bulbs though I'm using their Blue series

 

I had Silverstars for a while. I replaced them with PIAA Extreme Whites. It was honestly a big difference. On dry roads they are about the same, but on wet ones the PIAA's kicked the Sliverstars in the **** hard. Silverstars have a real problem lighting wet roads for some reason. I still feel the PIAA's were worth the money even though they do cost. I also put the PIAA's in my fogs.

 

I've noticed that about my silverstars also. They suck when it's raining. I think when these burn out, I'll buy the PIAA's. Btw, I've had this set for 5 months now, no problems yet.
