5th gen Clutch and Fidanza flywheel in.....

I have had my 5th gen clutch and flywheel put in about 3 weeks ago. I Broke the clutch in for at least 500 miles if not more before i got on it. There seems to be a problem.. If I shift hard and fast it feels like the clutch is slipping. It kind of studdery. Also say im in 3rd gear i let off the gas then i floor it, it seams to do the same slipping/studdering problem. Does any one know how to fix this problem? or what is worng? It just doesnt feel like the 5th gen clutch is biting as hard as i thought it would. My old stock felt better with my stock flywheel...

This isnt really important but i also got 2 new axle assy left and right within the past few months..

get under your car and see if your rear main seal is leaking.
maybe driving habbits? do you over-rev much before engaging? at what rpm do you engage at 1st gear?
Maybe its your pressure plate. Your pressure plate can also cause for your car to slip like that.
Did you get the oem 5th gen clutch? or was it a aftermarket 5th gen clutch?

i got the oem 5th gen clutch. i dont beat on my car at all. its just every now and then that i want to get on my car it seems to slip. 1st gear i usualy always shift around 3000rpms i dont like going much above that because then i would be considering "getting on it or beating on it" I hardly every over rev.

others have reported studdering with an aftermarket fly wheel. its hard to say what the exact problem is. it could be a dirty friction surface or uneven flywheel. the revs drop quicker and maybe youre not used to it.

I have installed Fidanza & Exedy stage I and have the same problem.

Just upgraded my motor mounts to polyurethane and the problem seems smaller, but it's definitely still there...

I hate it. heheh especially when shifting from 3rd to 4th and let go of the clutch without slipping it in... ( real fast...)

probably the flywheel then, its probably hard for the clutch to engage a flywheel that is spinning a lot faster than it usually does with a stock.

I was gonna mention motor mounts...

I have exedy stage 1/fidanza and I have bad studder if I cruise and punch it in like 5th, but i'm pretty sure it's my mounts

this thread is making me unsure about buying the fidanza flywheel, i have a bit of a project going and the fidanza flywheel was a part of it and now im not sure about spending the money when it might end up for the worst. I just bought a complete 95 motor, 2001 5 speed LSD tranny,(still to come) 5th gen clutch, new axels, wheelbearings, BM short throw shifter, fidanza flywheel, and other small parts needed. can anyone with a fidanza flywheel say that they were fully satisfied with what the got out of it?

I just installed this set up (5th gen clutch and Fidanza) about a month ago and I have not experienced any of this at all... I love the set up. Its perfect. I would say your problem was from the install job.

I did the install myself so I know that the flywheel was mounted flush on the crank, torqued to spec, and that the clutch was aligned properly and the cover bolted down in the proper pattern (according to the FSM) and torqued to spec.

All of those factors are critical to a clutch working properly. If anything is not done by the book, you're asking for trouble.

i30ds - Have you tried in 5th gear to let off the gas completly then stomping on it? So u think he installed it worng? It was a speciality trans shop. My dad has taken his cars to him and never had a problem and i took my car to him before, for my left axle assy. The he rebult my tranny because it went so while he was in there i got him the 5th gen clutch and the fidanza flywheel to put in. This studdering really feels like im loosing power.

madmaxima420 - as of right now i am not satisyfied but it could of been my mech fault. i have heard countless stories about how good the 5th gen clutch is. And ive heard many people talk about the fidanza with no problems.

It does not do it in any gear. I do not get any studdering or hesitation in manner. If I let off and then slam the gas, the thing just pulls hard and smooth... instantly... snap of the fingers. I really thing think it has something to do with the install... probably not done properly.

The clutch cover has to be torqued EXACTLY to spec and in the proper pattern as well. If it is not the clutch disc will not seat against the flywheel properly... it will be contacting unevenly. This is probably the studdering feeling that you are getting.

A buddy of mine had his clutch replaced by a specialty transmission shop and I just recently helped him remove the tranny to get it rebuilt. What I saw shocked me... None of the bolts (clutch cover, engine to tranny, flywheel) were torqued down to the specified specs. Some were tight as hell and then others were loose as hell. The release bearing was hardly greased at all, and only one of the two shift support rod bolts were in place. This is a well renouned shop in town and even they couldnt even fuccing get it right. This is why my car will never ever see a mechanic... I dont trust them at all!! If you want a job done right, you gotta do it yourself!!

I can. I would put it in all over again at the drop of hat. The unit itself is top notch in quality. The performance gains are extremely pleasing. The motor revs much more quickly and the acceleration response is absolutely great. If you are doing the install yourself and do it right, you will not run into any problems.

It has to be a problem with the install, my car has a problem and is still has a stock flywheel. After Aamco did a tranny rebuild and resurfaced the flywheel my car has never been the same since.

You dont need a garage or a lift or mechanic school to do this stuff... I didnt (well ok, I had a garage, but you could still easily do out on the street. I saw pics of a guy that did a motor swap on the side of the road).
