While i'm driving just regularly i feel a jerk every time it switches gears. It is kinda rough...Does that mean something is wrong with my trans. Do i need to replace it or whats up???

I'm guessing you have an auto like me, well, I had the same problemand what I did to solve that was a simple drain and refill. Now it feels a lot smoother. I also installed a tranny cooler to make sure it'll last longer.

Check your dropping resistor

Please check your dropping resistor. This component is mounted on the front side of the drivers-side strut tower. It has a gray plastic connector with two wires. This test is made with the ignition off. Disconnect the connector and use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance. It should be about 12Kohms.

Mine's always been 12 Kohms

Thank you for the correction

Thank you for the correction. My '99 Maxima factory service manual says Resistance: 11.4-12.6 ohms. My own Maxima is a 5-speed so I can't make a personal cross-check. I believe your number is right and the FSM is wrong. I've found other mistakes.

It should only cost about 4-5 quarts of tranny fluid depending if your going with synthetic (costs a little more). I can't talk for the 5-spd, but I know its pretty easy to the DIY mechanic, just a simple removal of the drain plug. The tranny fluid should consist of 10 quarts, but a simple drain and refill will only drain about half of it. To get almost all of it, you can try the drain and refill about 3 times to make sure all of the older fluid is gone.

why would you only get 4-5 quarts if the tranny holds 10 quarts???

Draining the transmission pan does not drain the torque converter.

my car sounds like a truck on knobby tires after the engine was swapped out. You think it could be a tranny or torque converter problem? How do you get fluid to cycle into the torque converter?

It's really easy to find. It sits right there on front of the strut tower mount, right next to the air filter housing.

If you check it, let me know your reading. I got 12.5 ohms, as per the FSM, not Kohms, like the earlier posters said. But someone bumped a 7 year old thread, and I don't think Daniel Martin has been around for some time, so I can't ask him...
