LED for MEVI Activation

i did a google searching trying to find this but nothing came up on the 13 pages. I know it has been done before but i cant find out how. Its nice that the Summit switch has 2 leds so you can see when it activates and has power. But that is now hidden and i cant seen if its still activating. Im pretty sure it is but i want to make sure it doesnt stop. Ive heard problems of it stop working and having to power off the car.

But anyways how would i wire to leds to the summit switch so i they will light up just like the ones in the summit switch. I guess the red light would just have to be connected to the power wire? Then for the green switch it would have to be on the same signal to the solenoid? Would it be inline with the solenoid or..??

Im confused about how the wiring would go. If anyone can shed some more light and add some details it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you look right behind the windsheild wiper pole you can see a clear led stickin out. I hope he doesnt mind i posted this. It was a fellow maxer from up north. Maybe he will chime in, i cant get ahold of him.

If there is already an LED in the summit switch, can you just tap your new LED directly into the old one?

ground your LED and power it using a relay to convert the ground summit singnal to positive to turn on the LED, make sure to use a resistor.

I just wired mine to the positive and negative terminals of the control solenoid

RPM switch activates solenoid by giving it power, LED lights when control solenoid is activated by RPM switch

err nm my instructions, thats how im gonna do it to wire it to my SECURITY light tho, if you use a dedicated LED you wont need the relay. just use teh summit ground for ground and wire the LED to some positive that turns on when you turn on the car (lighter) or something...

yes you need a resistor to lower the voltage for a LED, and yes you need to soldier the wires into the LED.....

Unless you get a 12V LED which should have a built in resitor.

Worked great for me. Just got a little green led pack from Radio Shack and soldered it to two wires running the same as he did.

grr... well i got it all wired and after got it all hooked up the led stayed on and it went off when it activated. I have the resistor on the postive (long leg) connected to 12v (cig lighter) and negitive hooked to the solenoid wire coming off the yellow wire. Is this right? my dad thinks that the positive and neg are backwards. help plz! the lights to bright to stay on all on the time. On and when the car goes off the led stays on

the LED _should_ turn off once power is not being supplied if you did infact hook it up to the Cig Lighter, I cant figure out an explaination for that, does the VI still open when you reach the certain rpm?

Do you have a test meter? The yellow should not get any Ground Signal until the rpm has been reached, if your VI is still opening when the rpm is reached, and the LED is turning off, can you try the white wire on the LED and the yellow on the VI? Makes no sense to me but it might just work.

Check back here...

the mevi works fine(i think.) The butterflies open at ~5200rpms. im confused could i have the polarity mixed up? like its getting a ground all the time then loses it at 5200? ill mess with it 2marrow after class.

Yeah, you understand what im saying though right, if the VI is opening with ground, shouldnt the LED be off until it gets grounded... Check it with a multimeter if you have one, sounds weird but im sure its something small...

I have a RED LED in my dash...all I did was tap into the lines coming back into the car from the Vacuum switch...

There are two lines coming into the car from the Vaccum switch...splice one with the red wire of the LED and one with the black wire of the LED..

When its signaled to open up, the light will stay trigger and stay on...test it at 1200 RPM's then raise it up

I only have one wire coming and going to the vacuum switch. That wire is connected to the yellow wire on the summit switch. The vacuum switch (ac delco solenoid) is getting power from the battery. So the only wire going outside is from the yellow wire off the summit switch, which runs by the hood release. I sniped this wire then hooked those two ends plus the wire comming off the negative leg on the led together. this should work right? ill mess with it 2ay after class.
