JWT or TS for a '98 max

I am debating between the TS and the JWT ECU upgrade for my 98 max. I heard that there is somethings that you have to do so that you dont get a CEL...does anyone know what that entails. Also I would like to hear some opinons on the differences on the 2 and which you perfer, thanks.

an ECU upgrade wont cause a cel.

If you have a Mevi or 00vi or plan to get one at any point down the line you may want tohe limiter increase, if you justwant the ecu thats all go TS you'll get your ecu back quicker.

I heard that they dont make an ECU upgrade directly for the 98 so that is why people go for the route of the 96...No CEL problems for using a 96 with a 98?

you heard that with JWT or TS or both?

IF you would get a cel it would be o2 sensor realted due to the different locations. Fixing it is thats the case I'm not too sure on.

They both *may* result in a CEL. Some people get it, others don't. JWT is better than TS if you can wait for them to mod the ECU. The best alternative though is to get a piggyback such as an SMT6/7 or GReddy eManage Ultimate with a one hour dyno session.

Okay, so I decided to buy the TS ECU from someone on the forum...the only other question I have is, what procedures should I go about when installing the new ecu?

I wouldn't say JWT is better, they just can do more than TS at this time. It's not that TS can't do all and more of what JWT does, it's that they don't have a ton of time on their hands at this point to do more for Maxima ECU's.

I'm going to dyno one of these days and I'll see how good the TS ECU is.

Unbolt the harness and connect it to the new ECU.

There are four screws and one big connector you have to undo. There is little room to work with while unscrewing the screws. Be patient. I had to use an angled screwdriver in order to get to them.

Better from the standpoint that:

a) They can modify all ECUs so they have a raised rev limiter (TS can ony do one and you have it)
b) They're more than willing to do custom mapping in terms of a/f, ignition advance, etc. With TS, it's like pulling teeth
c) JWT can do FI/nitrous programs

You'll need an ECU from a 95/96 Maxima. If you're a manual and get an ECU from an auto you'll get a CEL because the auto ECU will be looking for a tranny ECU and when it doesn't find it you'll get a trouble condition. Also, the 95/96 Maximas have a 3 wire rear heated O2 sensor while the 97+ uses a 4 wire heated rear O2 sensor - this will cause you a CEL for the rear heated O2 sensor. Here's a link to a fix http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....44#post3390144

Aside from those two sources of CEL's, your ECU swap shouldn't cause any CEL's. Also, neither of those two conditions result in a loss of power; however, if you choose to ignore the CEL you'd need to check for ligitimate codes periodically since the light would always be on. Hope that makes sense.

Not if you're Cheston............ He could bring a bus in there and they'll work on a ECU for it.

JWT has BAD cold start programs, don't believe me? Ask the FI guys. They have the WORST customer service I have ever seen. JWT takes 6-8months.

Yeah, I really want a JWT ecu
