Got A New Max
Got A New Max
I sold my 97 to my cousin since he was desperate for a car and I was going to buy another Maxima anyways so I got a 98GLE I'm pretty sure it is since the last owner shaved the trunk its silver with black leather auto climate control the only thing it doesn't have is a sunroof, heated seats and ABS. For you Socal guys DON'T buy any car from Camino Real Chevorlet when I took my car home I found it with NO coolant and almost BLACK oil. I don't know how it stayed cool the thing looks to have two radiators one silver one and a black calsonic one in back of it. My main concern though is the alarm. They told me it doesnt have one and they could install one but it would make my payments go up 25 dollars so I said no. BUT it has the security light and it blinks and it HAS the fuses plugged in under the hood. Can you guys help me find out if it has an alarm in it? You think the dealership would take it out so you can pay for theirs? Oh and what tires should I get for it I have these weird looking winston tires that look SMALL the car looks like it has more gap in the wheel base that the SE I dont even see the speed rating on them. Anyways if you guys can help me out with the alarm situation that would be great!

I think all 4th gens came with a factory alarm/keyless entry. Well, you have a GLE and it's got that blinking red light, so yes, you definately have the alarm (that's whatI got by the way, a GLE). Go buy a fob/key chain transmitter and look in the stickies to find out how to program it to work with your car.
It's not two radiators. The silver one is the AC condensor and the Calsonic is your radiator.

I see. Im just tripping out on how my car said at normal temp with no coolant! I have a key fob I might have to program the panic button to work. Anyways is there anyway to activate it? I tried locking it with the windows rolled down and unlocking it from the inside buy pulling the lock but it hasn't gone off can the fuses be blown out or something? It has the BIG fuse plugged in the alarm section of the box on the right side and the small one in the box on the drivers side. Is their anyother fuses in the car that has to do with the alarm.

I'm sorry, but I'm not too sure on that. When you lock it from the outside, do your signal lights blink twice? That tells you the alarm is armed. I don't know if the alarm activates on it's own or not. I'll have to try it out tomorrow and post back. If you have the fob, try programming it following the instructions in the stickies and see if it works.

It should not but don't quote me on that. If it blinks twice, you definately have the alarm, which is a great thing.
Oh one more thing, when you open the door from the inside, it won't trigger the alarm, because it was openned from the inside and not the out. It makes sense don't it?

Yeah it makes sence. It triggers my grandpas alarm though he has a 99 AvalonXLS and when the windows are rolled down and the alarm is armed and you reach in and pop the lock the alarm triggers. I thought it would work the same with the Maxima.
It must be the rarest GXE in the world then because it has leather,Bose,Homelink, wood trim on the console and it has the alloy wheels the only thing it doesn't have is ABS, Sunroof,Foglights, and heated seats.
Sounbwoy, I don't think there was any in both because after I let the car settle for a couple of hours there was only foam in the resivoir. Anyways is there any for sure way of seeing what model it is. I doubt its a GXE.

For the alarm I think you have to wait 30 seconds or a minute before the alarm is armed. Then try opening it from the inside and it ahould work. As for the alarm they were trying to sell you, It's an aftermarket alarm. They (dealership) hire a third-party company to install alarms on thier cars. They usually pay around 150-200 for the alarm. Then they sell it to you at an inflated priced ie: 25x60 months= 1500. So they make a huge profit of that. The dealership I work at pays 185 for the alarms, and we in turn sell them for $750.

Make you get that thing flushed man. Good Luck.
Yeah I'll try out my alarm later on. Now I'm concerned about what model I got people say that the GLE is supposed to have a sunroof and ABS and may have heated seats mine has everything but those other features. Its definetly not an SE since ther is no white gauges maybe its a rare GLE or a super rare GXE.
I used to sell Maximas from 95-99. ALL models, moonroofs were OPTIONAL. Not standard on any model. Leather, Bose and wood trim and climate control are standard onlyon the GLE. Moonroof, heated seats and mirrors were all optional.
YES!!!! And even more good news I decoded the vin under the hood to find that it is a GLE whew thats a relief. Oh and a question for you dealership guys what grade gas do you put in the car when sending someone off. I filled my car with 91 and the car is not as punchy but it runs smoother.
The alarm works so its there after all I can't believe those bastards at the dealership! They even looked in the hood and told me I have no alarm sensors and they told me the security light was there to bluff and that most cars nowdays do that!!!! LOL they are funny people!!!! Whew all my worries are over now I just need to take it to service and have them flush out all necessary fluids and what not. Now I need a Navi system I hate being lost. I like the Eclipse AVN5435 do any of you 4th gens have it installed?
