Chirp on Shifts?

All right, so the other day, I was just out for an awesome drive and just cruisin aroung, pushing the Max pretty hard, ya know. Anyway, I was on the freeway, took an offramp, then went straight when the light turned green and went back down the on ramp. It was a straight shot and I didn't shift until about 250-300 before redline. When I did, and I believe it was after I had shifted into 2nd, dropped the clutch and gunned, it, my tires chirped. I know other people have talked about this obviously, but what makes it happen? Is there more horsepower at the lower RPM's than near redline, or what? Also, I tried it again goin into 3rd, but no luck. Is it easy to do it into 3rd?

Someone help out a newb here. thanks

Dont quite understand your question... but youre not going to be able to chirp 3rd... well maybe you could with some crazy boost or something.

I can chirp third, I have to really slam it though which I dont like to do.

I have stage one ACT with minor bolt-ons as far as engine goes.

I've chirped 3rd quite a few times but it depends a lot on how hard your clutch grabs, rather than outright torque. It's not like some ricer move, because I don't really do it on purpose. Sometimes I wish I had no wheelspin at all, even on the street. Too bad we aren't AWD.

Hey.... I hate hondas just like the rest of us... but i've seen some sick CRX's... theyre lightweight and you can get some good numbers out of them... not to mention, if done right, they can be track/autocross beasts!

If you have really crappy tires it makes it really easy to chirp.

If your chirping your tires they are not adequate for your application. Its called waisted power. Chirping is nothing to brag about. You either need to change your tires or change clutch engagement to override the slipping.

I partially agree but even completely new and completely stock cars chirp 2nd gear. If you have a car with tons of torque like the max, it's inevitable when you push it to the max. Now with chirping in 3rd I think what you're saying might apply.

ok.. for the answer

It's the engines power @6000 and the momentum of the rotating assembly

i cant chirp my tires anymore, when i slam it into 2nd gear, the rpms lag to catch on..thats wasted power right there.

always keep the gas down and just keep shifting.... most people let off the gas when shifting, just keep the gas down and manuals was fun to drive.

hmm that sure is funny I chirped 4th today in a mach 1 mustang... according to most of you i must be wasting power .. oh and that was WITH traction on .. You just have to learn how to drive if you want to chirp and benifit from it.

I hope you're being sarcastic, if not ...
Just because it was in D doesn't mean you're actually in "D" You're a lost cause .. "I double clutched my atuo @ 6k in 3rd @ 40mph, and I beleive 4th gen autos came 5AT ..."

been chirping 3rd ever since i got the pathfinder throttle body installed. then no chirps after my knock sensor went to hell (it cracked). now my stage 2 clutch is slipping, so no more chirps.

that chirp may not have come from just the pathy throttle, but it was evident that i chirped all the time after the pathy throttle. at the time, mods are: jwt ecu+mevi+stage 2 spec clutch+stillen flywheel+ground kit+15" donut wheels.
