Wuts up guys. i plan on buyin a 4th generation maxima within the next 2-3 weeks. Im am going to be a senior in highschool and hopefully my new max will last threw college. Now obv i want the best bang for my buck and i plan on spending 5-6 grand. I want a 5 speed so what i was thinkin was like a 95-96 with 80k? (even tho i F@#^! LOVE the 97-99 rims) Now correct me if im wrong but number 1 concern would be the clutch, i dont want my cluch to blow out, I want to buy a max with a fresh clutch. (or possibly a cheap max that needs a clutch) when do u think the stock cluck with go on a 4th gen, 70-80-90+k?

The stock clutch on the 4th gen is just fine. It's not unheard of for a factory clutch to last over 100k miles. The only fairly-serious problem with 5-speed Maximas is the bearings in the transmission. They sometimes wear out prematurely (after 100k miles). Unless the tranny is making noises when you drive, you won't be able to tell how they're holding up without opening the transmission. But it's not like every single 5-speed Maxima has bearing problems, so don't panic. And considering a used transmission can be had for only a few hundred bucks from a junkyard, you won't have to worry about it breaking and totally bankrupting you.

5-speed owns. The Max is a TOTALLY different car with a stick. The engine is fabulous, and having that power and response right under your foot with no lag whatsoever just makes it tons of fun.

You can change wheels all you like, especially if the wheels you want can be had at a junkyard (like the 97-99 wheels you said you like). Get whatever model year you can find that's in good shape with a 5-speed and worry about customizing later.

its a great car, but it depends on who had the car before and the maintenance they did on it. plus if it was from a kid they probably put alot strain on that clutch doing burnouts and all that nonsense

 

Get a 5-spd 97-99 they are fast and look good!!!!

 

i'd look into a +97 4th GEN (i got a 95 and I fing 97-99 MAX's easier to mod) with less than 100k miles 5 spd, should turn up at around 6 grand
