the cassette door would say BOSE, as would the rear speaker covers.

Your speaker is on its last breaths. It happened to me. Same speaker too. Then I decided to wired an amp/ subwoofer in the trunk by myself , then I guess I did it wrong because the passenger side speaker blew out. Does a smell come out the speaker?

yesterday, i smelled something kinda burnin. it smelt wierd, but as soon as i turned off the radio and a/c so i could concentrate, it went away. i was scared it might have been the PCM. i swear i feel that this car is my baby the way i worry over stupid crap sometimes.

Do your speakers make a crackling sound or distorted at all? If so it's the speakers.

but i also notice that if i transfer the balance right, you can hear it very lightly. anyways, would i have to rewire the system becuase of the bose, or am i lucky enough to escape with a "plug n play" if u will?

There's no use trying to save them; your speakers are gone. You're hearing the other speakers. Believe me. Get ready to go to Best Buy or something, Buy whatever speakers you want (They can even be cheap fix), tell the salesperson that you want a warranty and have them install it themselves. So if anything goes South with them you can blame them and they'll refund you. Bose is a great brand, but they're not that compatible with other brands so you'll probably have to re-wire the system. Have them do that for you.

Mine did the same thing, I replaced the head unit and it stopped.
I did have couple of bad speakers that I replaced first though.
