An ECU is needed to run most if not all newer model cars including a 95 Maxima ... If you're talking about an aftermarket ECU for an extended rev limiter to tke advantage of the MEI, then no it's not mandatory if you already have one that ran your old motor.

I find it almost hard to believe that you need a new engine, happenend to the old one?

Yes that is already MEVI equipped. I wonder of the JDM ECU has a different tune ..

Blown piston rings and guy is giving me really good price for engine install and said they want to put a newer engine in it instead of fixing the one i got now since its been only problems. And since theyre mainly payin for it and i can use the parts from the old 1 if i need um eventually i think its worth it

*edit*
and i got the orig ecu in my car already. Will the mevi offer any gains without the aftermarket ecu? and will it cause me to fail inspection? I know mevi's are all like high end gain so will i not feel any gains until like 4k rpm?

why don't you just drop a 2000/2001 engine in there and worry about the ecu later if you don't have the money right away.

Dont got nearly enough money for it. Found this engine and am happy with it. The jdm guy is friends with the guy that is putting the engine in for me. Plus i dnt think i can convince parents loanin me anymore money then what they are now. How much is the modded ECU and will i be able to pass inspection with a MEVI on?

you could pick up a 2000 engine for like 500-700 bucks and it will be much more power.

I'm putting dollars (well pretend ones) on it that the JDM ecu is better with MEVI I have Consult style data cable so I think I can dump the map from it... might be good comparison (mines jdm)

Dude, you will have to install the vaccuum system for the MEVI if you want it to give you any gains...that stuff probably won't be included with the engine. How to do that is definately in the stickies....you'll find yourself redlined a lot more often...

Everything is included i picked it up today. Its sold as a long block with everything ecept the stuff from the MAF and on. Engine looks great im gonna wait till i pay the folks back be4 i change the ECU. What i wished i could have done was not a 00. I wished i could do a 6spd 3.5l swap. Now that would be freakin sick :-)

*edit*
and im not gonna try and redline it to often i think thats what messed up the old one lol. But when needed :-) i will do. Im excited just to get my car back been drivin my dads Auto Camry V6 ugh lol

Pay the extra bucks and drop the 3.5. It would be better because you will need an upgraded ECU to take advantage of the MEVI. Which would end up costing just as much as the 3.5 and will not be faster by any means. It would be disgusting to have a 3.5 with 00VI and 6 SPD in a 4th gen. That is just a wet dream in itself.
