My Max '97 overheats, and I am going crazy

i have a problem with my max 97, it gets overheated i changed the thrmo last week but it is still overheating, the overheating happens when i accelerate too much, that is when the needle goes up and when i release the gaz pedal it starts to go down but it does not reach the desired level which i used to have (the line right over the C line). can any one help or advice of a good site where i can find diagnostics.
this morning i checked the radiator and i found that i had to add water, so i did, and i checked the reservoir and the surprise was that i found that it is topped (full)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. what is going on with my Max guys?

is it really overheating, or is the gauge bad??? it sounds like youre talking about 2 different things.....the gauge, and the coolant level. the gauge should read right in the middle after the car warms up, it shouldnt move up and down hardly at all during normal driving. the coolant level should fluctuate with temp. be more specific.

It should be in the middle of the gauge, not just over the C line.

Change your radiator cap and burp the system. If you continue to loose anti-freeze or find your radiator is low yet the reservoir is full, then you have a blown head gasket.

When you are Driving did you have the A/C on if so check you fans if your Fans are not blowing then you need a new fan shroud

Like I said, it sounds like hes taling about 2 different things. When hes talking about it being "right over the c line" I think hes talking about the coolant level in the resivoir. but hes also talking about "the gauge moving up and down." which is why i said maybe the gauge is bad. he needs to specify exactly what is happening.

Thank you all guys. what i ment by the C line is the C in the gauge which means "Cold".
Any way, yesterday i took my car to a workshop where they check up radiators, and guess what? the radiator was dirty, the guy at the workshop dismanteled it, cleaned it with a thin long piece of metal and put it together again. now the overheating is gone! but another problem came up which is:
when i accelerate the temp indicator goes way down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it goes to the letter C (Cold) which is not good for the engin i guess. am i right? what to do now guys?

90% chance your coolant temp sensor is bad.
10% its the gauge itself. but i doubt it.

I had a similar problem, the gauge moving too fast, in my case it was a bad water pump which caused an air bubble. I think thats your problem (the bubble not the water pump.)

I would drain the coolant & run the engine as you slowly fill it back up.

u r right njmaxselted it was relatd to the thermostat, but it was not the placing. it was a faulty (new) thermostat. i replaced it and voila my max is back!!!!!!!!!!
So to summarize the problem:
1- the overheating was caused by a partialy blocked radiator.
2- I thought it was a faulty thermostat so i replaced it.
3- the overheating is still there.
4- I was adviced to check the radiator,
5- I did and found that it was not clean so I cleaned it.
6- Now another problem arises, the engin was getting too cold.
7- I suspected a faulty thermstat, I changed it and back to normal again.
I am very happy now,

thank you all guys for participating, i truly gained some knowledge. THANK YOU

i have a problem with overheating. usually happens when i have the air conditioner on... and in rush hour trafic, stop and go.

doesnt happen much when driving normaly.

i do belive its because of blocked radiator. could also be a few idea's too, like the radiator cap, didnt bleed the air out, a leak of some type... thermostat etc.

im going to get a new radiator from http://www.radiatorbarn.com/
and a new thermostat probably from wherever :P

hope that helps.

some people have replaced the radiator fans and that helped too, but dont count on it 100%, check it tho, make sure its spinning good enough, but thats expensive to replace.

That sounds like the Fan.

When you are Driving did you have the A/C on if so check you fans if your Fans are not blowing then you need a new fan shroud. This is what you do when the car is on turn A/C on and pop the hood if you only see 1 Fan or No fan on then it's the Fan. Thant will fix the overheating problem
