Bypassed KS with a resister...how effective

I used a 470K resistor as suggested in one of the stickies. Doing this I got rid of my KS ghost code and it has stayed gone. Have been using Prem 91 gas and finally got a new KS. Will I see any dif performance wise and/or gas mileage wise, or, could I have just left the resistor in there and not worried as long as I stayed with the 91 octane gas??

Put in the knock sensor. Performance maybe the same, but your engine will be a lot safer with the true KS in place of the resistor (it prevents knocking/pinging).

Yep, put the KS back in.

ECU's have two maps. The "normal" timing map and the "low-octane" timing map. If the ECU detects sufficient knock, it switches to the low octane map. If it doesn't detect enough knock, it stays on the normal map. There's no in-between. It won't retard timing a "little bit" or anything like that. It will run either normal timing, or it will switch to retarded timing if it detects knock. Right know without the KS, you are making it impossible to switch to the low octane map if it actually needs to.

thanks, I am in process of changing it now. I tried with a 3/8 extender but no luck , so I am off to get a 1/4 extender and socket. No question I put it in, as I already bought it. I guess I am just hoping that the real KS does a better job than the resistor, ie in performance and mileage. If not it would almost seem that as long as you run high octane that it is really kind of useless.

im wondering the same since i use the 470 resistor since 3 months
and im still waiting for my KS..

anyways the temp is not as hot here in canada and i always use 91 octane
so im not very scared using the resistor

so basicly a working KS gives same performance as the 470k resistor? cant
get any better with a KS?

edit: nevermind did read the answer up there ;P
