Did you blow/damage yours? Don't bother with a 4th gen. Just drop a nice 3.5 in it and call it a day.

www.Car-parts.com for the motor...Anywhere from $250-$1000 for the motor with pretty low milage, are easy to find...Installation can be done by you, or macanic for about $1000-$1500 depending on who you go to

What are you japanese? They get new motors in their cars every 4 years. That's the whole idea behind JDM. If your car runs good leave it alone. Maxima motors last a very long time. They were wards 10 best when they came out and they're still on the 10 best list.

Used ones... It's the more wise thing to do to buy a good used one than getting a brand new one. Have you seen the price of a new VQ?

A brand NEW VQ from Nissan is near $4000....for that you can buy about 8 used VQ engines all with less then 40K miles on them and pass them out in your neiborhood...

or just drop in a 2000 motor. much less work than the 3.5 swap, a direct drop in, but not as much power. however much better power than a 95-99 3.0

~222hp (2000 motor) vs ~190hp (95-99 motor) vs ~255hp (2002+ 3.5L motor)

however if you have the time, the funds, and the willingness, do the 3.5 motor swap!

It won't cost that much more to get the 3.5 dropped in versus the DEK. I thought the 3.5 was a direct drop in ... guess I was wrong. What are the extreme basic things needed to be done?

Read the NA forums. That is step one.

I would like to third the 3.5 engine. If you buy a used 95 engine, then you can pay like Matty said from anywhere $250-$1000, but the 3.5 could be anywhere from $500-$2000. What's a few hundred bucks if your gonna swap engines anyways?

Get the 2k with less miles bro and drop it or dont waste your money in general because if that engine is in good shape it will last you another 200k with easy.

Put quality fluids in it and yah you will get quality results.

Jeez, when are people going to stop pretending the 3.5 swap is "alot more work" or "alot more money" than a De-K? It's not.

Parts needed:

Engine: 750-800$
JWT spacers: 50$
Cams drilled: 80$

I'd say just the engine shaves about 1 second off your 1/4 mile times, same tires same engine same tranny same driver.

DAMN! Just spacers and redrilled CAMS. Sounds like a plan to me if I ever blow my engine. I thought CAMS came with the engine block ... in that case I would just use the 3.5 CAMS.

Funny how 32 hp extra isn't much difference comparing a DE and DEK in terms of performance, but 33 hp (01 vs 02) is MUCH different when comparing (read = TORQUE) ... performance ...

Nismos3112 ... Hmm, I'd say 2 seconds is a bit of a stretch, was your car 5MT before the 3.5L, because if so, then I'd bet tehre was something wrong with that puppy .. if it was auto, then that's understandable.

I see.

For me:

Stock=15.00@92 mph
Now=13.68@104 mph (now 105 mph so I'd say 13.5 if I can put it down)

Same (street) tires but I did a bunch of bolt ons at the same time. Coming soon, 4.47 final drive ratio instead of 3.82. It's gonna rip

My original motor had 179k on it, and my best time was a 15.9 I believe.

JClaw, where are you getting the 4.47 from?

I just bought a 3.5 w/800 miles on it for $1000 shipped. I received it last friday. Can't wait to drop it in. Anyone have the part number for the JWT cam spacers? I PM'd Tilley about getting spacers from him, but he never responded.

1991 Nissan Axxess 4WD VLSD, which uses the same tranny as us (RS5F50V) and has the same gear ratios, except with a 17% more aggressive final drive. The car is going to be geared more or less like an Integra GS-R with that, except with torque.

I'll be using the 5th gear from a 2000 Altima so my 75 mph cruising RPMs will only go up from 3000 to 3250, instead of 3000 to 3500.

This will be a similar jump than going from 3.55's to 4.10's on a 5.0 Mustang, i.e pretty significant.

Also for the VQ35 swap Headers would be needed (to put down more power) and a clutch upgrade would be manditory, or your melt your 4th gen clutch like butter in a microwave.

That would be an addition ~$1100 on top of the parts list

You think you'll get into the 12's now? You should be able to really roast the tires through 1st and 2nd gear now.
