cleaning O2 sensor?

have you ever heard about clenaing those sensors?...I recently changed the front one on my 99 maxx and it was very very dirty...the car feeled great...48 hours later, it came back to the same bad situation...hesitations and loss of power..the next day I came to the stealership to program my key for the remote starter and the guy told me that I had a code for my knock sensor (without the cel light on)...is there any relation between the dirty O2 sensor, the bad MPG and the loss of power with the knock sensor?

please help!

The knock sensor causes the loss of power. But, it could have been your o2 that could have triggered it, and your ks could be perfectly fine. Fix the o2 problem completely, reset all the codes, then see if the ks code comes back. One at a time.

can you clean O2 sensors? they seem to be really finnicky and touchy. i would think any liquids or chemicals would instantly ruin them. i'm planning on ordering 2 new ones from the GD.

how did you replace the O2 sensors? I tried already and it seems to me that you have to take the Y-Pipe off to get to them-and I can't figure out how to get the Y-pipe off-I can't get to the bolts! How did they put it on in the first place!?

I borrowed a tool from AutoZone, which was no more than a deep socket with a slot cut in the side, and then I either used channel lock or an adjustable (cresent) wrench. Its tight but it can be done.

Good Luck

I see that some of you guys are only replacing 1 of your O2's. Why is that? Any Advantages/Diadvantages? Sorry to sound like a newb but wondering cause i may be doing this. My cel is on but it's not throwing the code for O2's, it's throwing P0041 but after seafoaming the car yesterday I will more than bet they are dirty now and need changing.
