that is mostly from people painting them. my guess at least. although, I do believe custom maxima sells some CF or painted ones. but my advice, paint it yourself and have pride in a good DIY project as well as saving money.

If it is just regular black you can sand down your stock one a little and just paint it, if you are looking for carbon fiber, I know for sure CustomMaxima.com has em.

Sounds like a fun project. What kind of paint should I use in a black?

Here's mine, painted in blue.

No sanding, No primer. Just washed it with dish washing soap, dried it completely, and hit it with 5 coats of Duplicolor engine enamel. Been about a month, no chipping, bubbling, or peeling.

is sanding and prepping advised, or can you get away without it by washing it well and using engine enamel?

Well, that would be the proper way of doing ANY paint project. I just did it the quick way. After a month, it's holding up well. As long as you clean it well and make sure there isn't any type of grease or dirt, the paint will stick fine.

How did you guys avoid painting the "NISSAN V6 3000" words on the spark plug cover?
Or did you just paint the whole thing and afterwards painted the words???

Masking tape. Took a while, but you want to get that part right.

a popular method that many seem to use, and I plan to myself, is to just cover the surfaces you don't want painted with vaseline or chapstick or the like, so that after the paint is dry, you can just wipe away the painted vaseline to reveal perfectly clean lettering.

another question, has anyone clearcoated after their paint job to help it maintain better? does anyone have a shot of a clearcoated one? preferably in the engine bay? I would like to know how a glossy piece like that would fit in. I'm polishing my FVC also, so hopefully it'll kinda fit in with the showy/shiny theme.
