Caught on fire?

Changed the plugs today to some auto lites cuz it was cheap.. Well ever since then the car was missin on bank 3. Change to another Set of plugs and still the same.. didnt know why.. Well going down the frreway i get a call from a friend behind me, telling me my car was on fire.. So i pull off and for some reason my catlytic(?) converter was on fire... I put it out with my shirt, car hasn't flamed up since.. Car hesitates from a dead stop or when gas is pushed in.. Definatly feels like a pinto.. Takes like 2 minutes to get up to 50 mph.. WTH is going on with the max, 200k miles to much for her?

Auto lites will work in the car but performance more than likely suffer.

is it possible you dammaged a coil pack when changing the plugs and now one of the plugs isn't firing so unburned gas is going to the cat and thats what made it get so hot and catch fire...?

Like they said, you probably damaged a coil pack. buying cheap spark plugs is now going to cost you 6 ngk's and a new coil. ****ty.

When I bought my Max, it had Autolites in it. My friend the Nissan Master Tech, changed the plugs to NGK Platinums. When he saw that there were Autolites in it, he said: " WTF are Autolites doing in here, these are for Ford! " The car seemed to run fine though, but a little sluggish. Much better now with the NGK's.

bad sparks can cause a mis fire. . . but not really brand new sparks. Start with proper plug then go from there.

i also was cheap and put autolite plugs in at first and my car ran like crap. still being cheap and not thinking i removed them the following day and put a different brand of cheap plugs. after still feeling a difference in my car i drove directly to Nissan and got the NGk plugs. that was the last time i went cheap on my car.

I smell here. Your shirt would burn the instant it came in contact with the cat if it was indeed on fire.

A clogged cat will get extreamly hot and rob you of quite a bit of power, you might need to replace it. I doubt your plugs had anything to do with it.
