mileage improvements with ram/cold air intake . . .

has anyone actually seen gas mileage improvements with this mod? Everysingle one advertised says it *improves* gas mileage, yet I put mine on and now she drinking fuel like a bum on a brewery tour. wtf? and I even tried going easy on the accelorator.

That is because you drive your car harder every time you add a mod. With an intake you want to hear it more so you rev more. With VI you want to feel the pull at redline so you rev more. With exhaust you want to show off so you rev more. It is almost as if every air-restrictive mod you do, it actually makes gas efficiency worse ... then again VI isn't an air-restrictive mod but you get the point.

You put yours on and now its guzzling gas like a ****. Did you install it correctly?

or more likely, did something else take a **** at about the same time you put it on? check your ecu.

Try using cruise control for a trip and I garentee you'll get at least 3 more miles per gallon on your trip! Even know you say you're easy on the accelerator, you're not! Go on a trip and notice it! I get 33+ mpg on road trips cruisin' at 75mph...its nice if you're nice to the max! Good luck!

It could also be that because you lost some low end power that you feel your car isn't going anywhere despite the sound, so you rev higher and higher. Thus, wasting more gas.

naw actually after having it on for 2 hours (yes im one of those freaks that believe the ECU learned the intake) she started pulling real nice off the line, and now it seems like all sluggishness in the power band has been reduced a fair amount

i probably do drive it harder now but yes i do need to take care of some nagging ecu codes, its just several days worth of diagnostics and with summer coming to a close Im not looking forward to this project

I get pretty close to that....My last tank was about 547 miles, all highway....I'm happy with what the 'ol Max is showin me! But whenever I go for top-speed tests on trips I usually get around 25...I use 91 octane if that has anything to do with it...

i have an 03 SE 6spd. only mods are K&N and turbonator(air fin). My last trip i reset the mpg avg and got just over 33 for the entire trip. it was all highway, no a/c and cruise on for most of the way (380 miles). I finished off the tank once i was in the city, of course mpg went down, but i still got over 500 miles on that tank.

Make sure you are not using one of those small cone filters that came with the ebay CAI, make sure you keep the big boy filter.

My air filter is so dirty I think a garbage bag would be more beneficial : ) We'll see if there's any adverse effects to getting a new filter on gas mileage than keeping the dirty one...swapping them out this weekend

A dirty air filter is like running with a choke on.
