Trans Vin Number

I bought a 2001 5 speed A.E. trans and wanted to make sure it has the VLSD, is there anyway i could tell this through the vin, or by the trans itself without opening it up? thanks

Hey

These pics are from my 4th Gen LSD gearbox, should be the same for the 2001 AE

If you look in the axle holes the drivers side should have a 2nd set of splines, whereas a Non-LSD gearbox both axle holes will look like the passenger side with only 1 spline

Drivers side

Passenger side

I don't have my 96 max here, it is with my daughter at college. However I do rembember on that particular model there is an ID tag some where under the hood that will give engine code and trans code. On the trans code near the end of one of the sequence of numbers will be a letter A or V. V stands for viscous or limited slip. I don't know what the A stands for. Take a look under the hood see if you have that ID then call the nissan dealer to verify what the trans code means.

ya there should be a tranny code stamped somewhere on the bellhousing, i think closer to the engine side. if it ends in a V it should be LSD, and if it's open diff it hink it ends in an A. just curious, how much did u pay for this tranny?

Are you just trying to brag or do you want to know if its LSD?

<tap tap> Is this thing on <tap tap>

Check the pictures above, compare it with your transmisison

The A in the transmission code means it the open trans type, won't help you as the transmission is out of the car so no VIN plate.

I looked on my trans and I can't see any model numbers (trans is on my garage floor so I have had a good look)

Probally just wants to brag but like stated above that is the best way to tell if it is a VLSD.

Picky Picky VIN plate is bolted to your firewall.. as well as having the VIN code for the car it also has the transmisison code on it
