I read a bit about these grounding kits and found it very interesting...any of you owns one and what's your feeling about it??

awesome question. i've been lookin at these too. mostly just the fake nismo ones on ebay, but i think it would be interesting to see the differences.

is there another more detailed write up on this?

There was a thread just a few days ago discussing this exact question. Just got back a few pages and you'll find it.

 

it was called "are grounding kits snake oil" and was several pages long

 

They won't do much except ensure that you're old corroded grounds are cleaned and renewed.

i have the blemhco kit

 

I made my own grouding kit with 4 gauge wire, it cost me about $5.00(I work for an electronics store so I get the stuff cheap). It took about 1/2 hour to fabricate the wires and about the same to install. I really didn't notice much difference other than the slightly crisper shifts(auto),maybe smoother idle?

 

i think im going to make mine own too, from what i hear from a better metal to metal and smoother shifting

I can't tell you exactly what it does, but for me everything just felt a little smoother. If I could go back in time, I probably wouldn't get it again unless I really had nothing else better to spend my money on.

 

Unless something is wrong with your factory grounds I don't see how this could suddenly make your whole car more wonderful. Sure can't hurt anything though, I'll give you that much (assuming you don't ground out the wrong thing).

 

i work at a shop as well and it did only take about 1/2 hour to make the kit. Well it dresses up the engine bay a little bit and i felt minimal differences with it.

 

I placed my grounding kit about 4k miles ago. Usually it makes your lights brighter and would make provide your sound system with enough condunity to prevent electric spikes. It does smooth out the idle somewhat, but don't believe the hype about adding any additional horsepower. The grounding kit is usually universal and you can buy it on ebay or make it yourself. Don't pay more than $30.00 b/c you are just basically getting rapped for your money. It also helps with your sensors in respect of giving false information. B/c you have more ground points the sensors will be able to provide proper feed back to the ECU. Its a cheap mod. but if you know anything about electricity it acutally makes a lot of sense.

 

Bigger difference in autos than manuals

I finally put mine on today - haven't driven it yet so don't know the difference (most likely better shifting trans and brighter headlights)

I beg to differ. I do feel cleaner shifts on my auto. For the rest of the claims mentioned on VQPower's review, I personally have not noticed them. But the shifting is definately felt.

 

I totally agree with 99automagic, especially the delay from 2nd to 1st that all the autos know about was definatley reduced after I put the kit on. Definately didnt do anything for power or mpg or anything else that people claim it will.

 

I didnt notice any difference.

Hi all:

With the grounding mod, I would suspect that the ECU could read low level voltages with better accuracy. By low level, I mean situations such as low air flow through the MAF or low demand on the fuel injectors.

I think this mod would improve the idle or maybe very low rpm torque by way of more accurate low level signals to the ECU. I believe at high load operation, this mod might not be noticeable.

I have the ground kit from BlehmCo but I haven't installed it yet. I think I may have some bad grounds here and there. My starter cranks a little slow and my engine takes several seconds to fire up. When I get time this week, I may try it out.

 

I am amazed at how many people replied to this thread with something like:

so I will add my 2 cents:

I havent done the mod but I suspect that it will allow your wheels to invert vertically and cause your maxima to lift off the ground and hoover much like the delorean in "back to the future".

 

That's the thing about the internet. Alot of hot air coming from people.

About that hover car adjustment, I haven't figured out how to activate it yet, but i think it has something to do with running one more grounding wire from the battery straight into your skull to complete the circuit. I can't believe Active Tuning didn't send me the most inportant part of the whole kit. Now I have to go buy some 4 gauge wire and fabricate my own cranial connection.

 

I was skeptical at first, so I asked I guy I know who has been a custom car installer for 15 years and he says that it is quite common, they do it all the time. He says the biggest improvment usually comes with grounding the battery to the car.

 

I made a set to replace corroded OEM grounds. I used 8 gauge monster cable a friend had laying around. I took about an hour to make and install the cables. The results were as expected given the poor state of my grounds. My tranny (auto) does shift better. My accesories work better and the engine noise in my audio system is gone. No horsepower or mileage gains.

 

4 guage grounding kit, plus 0 guage Big 3, plus 215 amp alternator = one happy auto and hella bright indiglo guages
