Another Picture

I can spray painted the bumper last year and painted the underside a few weeks ago. My pathfinder is still going strong too.

At least from the picture, it looks great....

Did you prep the bumper first? (prime/sand/etc.)

Did you paint it on the car?

Where did you get matching paint?

Did you clearcoat it too?

Yeah, it looks factory paint. I did the prep and got most of the paint off through sanding while the bumper was on the car. Paint was from Towerpaint.com. I did clearcoat it using duplicolor. Some people put a special paint additive for bumpers and I didn't. After sanding I primed it, sprayed it with color and then primed it again and then put a final coat of color. In about an hour I sprayed it with two clearcoats.

It really does look good.

When you sanded, how far down did you go and did you use any tools or just by hand? What grit sand-paper did you use?

Sorry about all these questions - I really need to fix my front bumper and am very impressed at how yours turned out.

I sanded nearly all the way down to where it turned white or yellow from the plastic and primer. Some places I couldn't sand very well, like where the fog lights are supposed to be. Just make sure they are smooth. Start with 400 or whatever you feel comfortable with and use slight pressure. Doesn't take very long. After that take some isophoral (whatever) alcohol and wipe clean. Then spay the ground with water so dust won't be stirred up.

Clearcoat is very important.

I painted the side mirror housings too. Those were just about as bad as the front bumper. Sanded them the same way, only it's seemed more difficult because of the black plastic border.

Biggest problem I have is the windshield. So many slight imperfections from road debris I am going to have to replace it. The pathfinder's was replaced a few years back and it still seems like new. Biggest difference is at night. All those swirls in the Maxima and you get to know what it's like wearing glasses with all the halos. Even in the daytime it's noticable.

"10char" is an accepted method to lengthen a post to the 10 character length restriction.

And what are you doing, irish

That's an old post. Spray painted the underside plastic crap since then and the intake area plus cleaned up the engine bay. Did the doors with sound deadener.

Only other thing I might have done since then was replace the alternator belt. Didn't replace the power steering belt yet either. Still have that lying around.

Waxed it a few weeks ago after getting back from Vegas.

Need some cans or some paint and buy a sprayer or something for the roof.

Hard to believe I only have to change the oil and the other fluids to keep this junk running at 31 mpg highway.
