oil filter bypass valve - opens at high rpm

I read that above about 3500 rpm the oil filter bypass valve opens up and feeds unfiltered oil into your engine - is this true of the 9E000 filter as well? if so, why? is there a better filter that will still provide filtration and sufficient flow at high RPMs?

Where did you read this? The valve won't "open" at any particular RPM... it all depends on the pressure drop and how clogged the filter is. If you step on it, there is a good chance the valve might open up slightly... but you can't say with certainty that it happens at a particular RPM. Hope that helps.

great - now I'll be afraid to step on it.

I read about this at http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html

there's also info about filter magnets and putting magnets at the bottom of your oil pan - have you ever tried this??

I haven't seen any magnets on the engine oil pan. I use a oil drain engine plug with a magnet on the inside end as well as a magnet on the outside of the oil filter. Just playing it safe!
