car locks by itself

It seems this has been discussed in he past, but I couldn't find it. My wife's car has started locking automatically. I was cleaning the interior and noticed it would just lock. I would unlock it and it would lock again. I've noticed on numerous occaisions that I would go to get something from the car and it woul be locked (again by itself). Does anybody know if this a re-programing issue for the alarm or is it an electrical problems. Anybody know how to fix?

This has been discussed before!

If u don't open the door after unlocking, the car locks itself if u don't put the key in the ignition after certain time

your car is just protecting itself from getting stolen
just think, if you ever forget to lock the car up it does that on its own

just change your name to smartmaxima and be happy with your car

This car is a 96 SE model and I'm not so sure that's what's happening. It didn't do this before. Also when it was doing it this weekend, I had the door open.

Odd, mine doesn't do this. Seeing as how I have the SE with the alarm, of all models I think this one would do it.

I'll have to whip out the owner's manual tonight and see if there is anything in it about the security system.

Seems I recall previous discussions similiar to this a good while back, but I couldn't find them and I can't search (or don't know how).

I have never experienced this self locking situaion with my 96 SE. I do know that sometimes moisture in the door can cause autolocking. You might check for leaks.

My 96 Se doesn't do this so I'm not sure that there is some sort of self-locking circuit as some have suggested. However, I know of at least one 2nd generation Maxima that did this. It was like a ghost was locking and unlocking the doors - it would do this multiple times - kinda creepy- probably a short.

It can't. I give it loving adoration , change its oil regularly and give it new tires and O2 sensors.

alright, I will try to put a serious post in here before this S**T storm gets any worse...

I know from experience that this can happen when the lock's linkage in the either of the front doors gets tweaked (like when you unlock the door for your honey but she is pulling on the handle at the same time, and jams it a bit). This leaves the lock control lever (I don't know the lingo here, so try to follow) in an position that is VERY close to center. And any subsiquent unlocking will not fully release the lock in the future since it is was treaked.

Now, if you already know that the doors will lock simply by locking either of the front doors, you prolly already get what I'm trying to say.

the jist is - The locks on one of the doors is left in a partially locked/unlocked position. So it is periodically tripping the sensor that locks the doors.

This was my experience and may not be realted to yours in anyway

hope this helps. Good luck

D

my 99 liked to lock itself all the time it was crazy... figured out that the harness going into the passenger side window controll was a tiny bit loose. pushed it back in and it the problem went away all together hope that helps -Ryan

My 95 GLE did this all the time. I reprogrammed the remote and didn't have the problem anymore.

Thanks. That's kinda the help I'm looking for. How did you re-program it, use the dealer or find out on the WWW.

Now that I think about, my daughter's Civic did the same thing when I did reprogram the remote, but not before. Too much elctronics I think.
