Trans Fluid

I have a 98 GLE.....I was told you can't replace the trans filter....Is this true? Also, what type of fluid is everyone using??? Any suggestions appreciated....

you can change the tranny oil filter. i don't know why someone would say you can't. read the thread that THT posted, it has all the info. just don't get side tracked by the oil cooler discussions. the local auto store should have the filter for $15 or less. some filter makers offer a "kit" that comes with the oil pan gasket. nissan says to replace the oil pan bolts because they have a sealer on them. some of the guys in the thread said they have re-used the old bolts without any leaks. i would suggest you buy a tube of liquid gasket goo and put some on the head of the bolt as you install them. the biggest mistake people do is over tighten the oil pan bolts. this bends the oil pan at the bolt area and the gasket can't seal.

dude thats a load of crap...if some one tells you that it cant be dont tell him/her their stupid... you can too replace it but its a screen that really doesnt not need to be replaced.. a simple purging of the system is fine....
