1996 Max torque converter issues?!

Hi,

My CEL is on with the code PO740 (torque converter), my local Mr. Transission wants to replace the torque converter but I'm not having any driveability issues. Anyone experienced this issue and actually replaced their torque converter?

Chris...

Let me give you some advice right now Chris- DO NOT do business with Mr. Transmission. They are a rip off, they tried to put a new casing on my old core with a rebuilt and call it a new transmission. After 100 miles my 2nd gear band broke leaving me with, and only with, second gear. I was pretty pissed, it took an overall time of about 6 months with me having my car for 1 week, being gone for 2 for that whole period of time. They couldn't get it right, and up until it was sold it still wasn't right. Be careful, there has to be someone better out there.

Chris...
The driveability issue you are experiencing (but not noticing) is that your car is never shifting into OD... try it, when you press the OD on/off button, nothing will happen... (or at least thats my prediction).

You can replace just the TC... you have to drop the transmission to do it.

If his TC was really going out, trust me he would know it. The car wouldn't move when you give it gas and then it would just launch at like 2800.

IcedOut, which hose did you find disconnected?

I don't have any drivability issues. I can switch the O/D on and off at will with the gear shift button and its noticeable, by that I mean it will go into OD and out of OD with the button as it should.

Thanks for the input!

I will check, but I'm assuming that the hose was hooked up to the transmission???

The only hose connected to the transmission is a breather hose. It won't change operation whether it's connected or disconnected.
