ok, I've now figured out that it's NOT my front brake pads that are shot...it's my rears...they are factory originals and my car has 70K miles..so I figure that's pretty good. Anyway...the question is can I just replace my rear pads...or do I need to have the rotors "turned" or resurfaced?? They are not warped..and look fine.

no!

If they don't pulsate when you brake then don't waste your money on it. I have done about 3 brake jobs on Maximas that don't pulsate and have never had them turned; everything was fine. I just did my rears about 3 weeks ago. After 70k they don't pulsate at all and I didn't turn them. Then again, my rotors aren't grooved or scoured either. I just took some medium grit sand paper and roughed up the rotor surface a little bit and that was it. By no means did I go crazy on them...just a 3min. sanding on both sides and I was done!
