help w/replacing Katrina flooded SE

being a resident of new orleans, my 95 SE unfortunately didn't survive Katrina.

the wife was too tired to drive by herself (she gets a pass on this, given the circumstances), and even i have to admit that it made more sense to take her 2002 GS300.

so.... i need to replace my max and was wondering what y'all though of this deal....

i found a 97 SE w/57K - color is not my fav (burgundy) and it doesn't have leather, but it has CD (NOT Bose, which is fine for me), sunroof, all pwr, excellent paint/body/alloys/interior, and drives perfectly.

my "friend" at the toyota/lexus dealer took it in on trade. my wife has known family for 25 years - we've purchased probably 6 cars from them, including her GS. he CLAIMS he's into it for $6200, but trade value at edmunds is $5100 and Kelly is $4825. NADA seems worthless as their consumer site doesn't give trade value, but rather low/med/high "retail value" (low is $7500 LOL).

dealer is "asking" $6900.

2 years ago, i got my 95 SE w/82K miles and same options except for CD for $5900.

what do you think?

on the plus side. there are VERY few 97's with mileage this low - hell, there are few 98-99s this low....

thanks. :

yes those are pretty low miles, but the price just seems a little high to me...

On Cars.com there are 180 97 Maximas in the country, only 4 have less miles than 57k. This car is a good find, but try to get him down around $6k if you can. This car is a good deal considering you won't have any major repairs for about 70,000 miles.........Knock on wood.

A nice find. I would try and talk him down on the price though. Maybe between $5800 and $6100. But definitely a good find for a car with such low miles.

There are plenty of used 4th gen Max's out there. Why settle for a car color you really don't like? Makes no sense at all, you look at it and drive it every day. Also sounds like you would like leather, again why settle for less?

Asking price is to much as well. Tell you wife's "friend" to sharpen his pencil again. He's got to try and sell you a car that isn't exactly what you want.

Better yet, look elsewhere for a car you really like.

thanks guys - you all made good points

njmaxseltd - yeah, the color ain't my FIRST choice. those would be silver, black, and white, in that order. but it doesn't SUCK either. and while leather would be nice, my last max had cloth - the seats were comfy, didn't stain too easily, and actually seemed more "grippy".

everyone - yeah, the price is 500-1000 higher than i'd like, but believe me, there are HIGHER priced ones too. as Crazy97 pointed out, there are 180 97s on cars.com and only FOUR of them have less miles..and only ONE of them is an SE, and it's from the snowbelt (NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!).

BTW, you'd be surprised (well, maybe not) at how many A$$HOLE DEALERS advertise their max as an "SE"...and it's NOT.

"excuse me, but where are the 5-spoke 16 in. alloys, the rear spoiler, and the white guages?".

I got my loaded '98 SE with 88k mles for $6000. I am from the same area as you so I know how hard Maximas are to find. I went to Houston to get my car.
