How long to put in new motor?
How long to put in new motor?
I am looking to swap in a motor with less miles, but just curious how long it takes.... For those that did the swap, anything that really sucked (particular bolts that don't come out nicely, headaches, etc...).....
I have a 95 Maxima and plan to find an exact motor to swap in just FYI.
Thanks for the help guys!

Keep the 5MT .... This can be debated though, but if you're just planning on doing an engine swap, i'd personally go w/ a 3.5 as well, but to stay as cheap as possible, leave whatever tranny is already in there ...
BTW< why are you changing your engine anyway, what's wrong with the one in there now?

ok, i know there are FAQ's and all for this type of thing, but if my engine crapped out in, oh say two years, is it worth it to put in a 3.5? or just sell it? I am pretty comfortable with any bolt on, but what skill is needed for a swap?
sorry, i'll just check FAQ's on this one.

It depends on what you think is "worth it" ... 30-40 peak whp is in my book, and more importantly 20-25 more ft/lbs thruthe entire powerband would be for me..

Did a swap last sat, took 5 hours but that only includes actual swap not the time to unhook wiring, drain fluids etc etc. I am still not quite ready to start it up, still have one axle and fluids to put in first.
Took me 17 hours from the time I pulled the car in the garage to starting it up with the new motor. That was with alot of breaks and screwing around trying to take the old motor apart, lots of trips to the parts store, no engine stand, etc. This was with a turbo car that was formerly an auto so there was some additional time for things that are not normally an issue such as re tapping for oil feed and return, etc. I could probably do it again in 10 hours from jack pump to engine start. It was also between 105-110 in the garage on the 2 days I was doing it so there was alot of water drinking and going inside into the air conditioning wasting some additional time.
