engine transplant

I got a question guys. I have '96 auto. i think the all maxima motors are completely interchangeable, but i'm not sure. Will a '97 motor swap in without any problems? Does it matter if the donor engine is auto or manual?

VQ ownz j00.

Yes, all engines from 95-99 are interchangeable, the 95's have different emissions equipment than 96-98, and the 99's are calispec, and have so much extra crap it's not even funny.

i knew the '95 and '99 might not have worked as easily. I think '95 is ODB I and '99 has a bunch of crappy emmissions stuff an f'ed up coils. i guess '96-'98's good thanx tav

I have 231k, and still sees 7+k daily (f'uck how many times have I said that already)

Seriously, don't waste your money or your time.

But if you're doing it to upgrade to a 3.5L,,,, by all means

I thought I blew the flucker today ... My tranny is dying, so it takes forever to shift out of 1st when it's started, took it 7k then it didnt shift, kept bouncing off the limiter .. I get to work and it dies .. Turns out, the tubing before the MAF came loose with all the engine flex ... ...whew.. simple 1 minute fix ...

Dude ... I want you to do a compression test on that motor. If it is still good then my Max needs to get more friendly with my best friend ... redline ... lol. I was always scared to let her rip. On top of that ... gas prices are killer.

why not? Just because the power band dips at 5K doesn't mean anything. You are still making more power a 6.5 in 1 then you are in 2nd when it shifts and same with 2-3.

W/stock IM I can shift @ 6.5k or let it do it's own @ 6k, and get the same results.

From a dyno prespective, you're making~ the same HP (a bit more) but with a lot more torque once in 2nd.

ahhh . . It seems like all those bragged about visits to 7k+ daily are catching up with you

Must have been some hard engine flex to knock out the tubing before the maf.

*Singin* "im da O-D-B as you can see!"

if you can get ahold of a 2k-2k1 motor, swap one of those in there...easy drop, and you get the VI...

Or you can hassle with the 3.5 swap, but thats ALOT more work...

i saw a cheap 3.0 somewhere and was gonna grab it, thats why i asked. Nothing wrong with mines. manual conv. is too expensive, and 3.5 is a PITA to do.

So thats why you take it to 7k+ daily. . . to encourage its death and birth it into a 5spd.
