whining noise in gear!!!!

whining noise in gear!!!!

when i start my car and put it in gear(auto)it makes a whinging sound until i let go of the brake...then its normal...it happens in all gears..can it be my tranny

thats odd... do you have a system installed? such as an amp with a power feed from the battery? if you dont ground out your stereo correctly, you could experience a whining noise in the speakers. idk if you have an amp and subs tho.

my manual does it in 1st and 2nd but that really doesnt have anything to do with this post just thought id mention

improper preload on a bearing perhaps

my auto does the exact same thing as yours when the trans is cold. whines for a few seconds when in drive or reverse. goes away either by releasing the brakes or it goes away in about 10 seconds even if the brakes are not released. putting it in neutrel or park makes the noise go away as well. does not do it on a warm engine or even on a cold engine after driving for a couple of minutes. trans shifts fine cold or hot with no driveability problems of any kind.

same exact thing..thanks for the replies but does any1 know what it is thats making the sound or if i can fix it?
