what is the most Quiet aftermarket muffler

I am tired of the universal muffler I have now. The drone is too loud. I am highly considering going back to stock, but Id rather get a quiet aftermarket one so as not to look tacky.

I'm sorry but there really isn't one out there. You will hear many say the Apexi the is the quietest, but actually it is the deepest. In oreder to make an aftermarket exhaust quiet you need a big resonator. Don't worry too much about the muffler, focus on pairing it with a big resonator. trust me I would know.

I thought I read somewhere on the .org to consider a 2001 Maxima muffler as they look better and fit well. Perhaps someone could chime in on this. When the day comes that I need a new muffler I think I will remain stock and if the 2001 muffler is a good alternative then that's what I'll buy.

I dont want to make any changes, just swap the mufflers out. If theres nothing even close to stock, ill just put a stock one on. does anyone have a pic of a stock muffler with a different tip?

Id be one to say the Apexi WS.
I ran if for a bit over 2 years and then decided to go with an Greddy catback.
The Apexi was deeper, but had little to no drone. You really couldnt tel I had an exhaust system unless I got on it. For an aftermarket catback, the Apexi WS is definatly quiter then the rest.

You are right, it is deeper than most. But if he wants quite it is difficult if he ahs a y-pipe, a nd a small resonator and a universal muffler.

I would go with this setup for sound reasons, put the stock muffler back on and just get a tip welded on. You can pretty much get any tip you choose so regardless of having a picture you can make it look however you want it to by getting the right tip

Are you looking for performance gain? Or just the look? If the latter, how about a stock muffler w/welded tip of your choice?

Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. Costs like 30-60 bucks from jegs.com or even Advanced Auto sells them, around here at least. Quietest muffler I've had on my car.

When I bought my car it had an expensive Magnaflow on it that appeared stock. The only time you could hear it was at about 2,500RPM, the rest of the time it was bone stock sounding.

I have a stock on my 96 with y-pipe and stock b-pipe. Both muffler and b-pipe are beginning to rust out, but right now, sounds like stock unless I really get on it. So even with a y-pipe, stock would sound quietest.

and what do you mean you'd rather get a quiet stock one as to not look too tacky?
OEM is the least tacky with a nice 3" chrome tip. you could probably go just a little bit bigger to fill in the cut-out on the bumper

I got one of these "Six Sigma Technolgy" muffler from Ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMESE%3AIT
If you have a stock exhaust it will be louder than stock, but not bad at all. After I put my Y-Pipe on, it got louder...
I am very happy with this muffler, and for the price you can't beat it. Got mine for $150.

Uhhh...thats the point. They are very cheap, and very durable. I had mine on my totalled car through our wisconsin winters, and no rust, no leaks, no anything.

i was very interested in the super turbo but then began looking at a full catback. but on second thought, can anyone point out where the best price for the Dynomax Super Turbo is? And if I have stock b-pipe, 2.25", should I get the inlet with 2.25" or just 2.5" and allow me to switch to an aftermarket b-pipe in the future?
sorry to take the thread, but hopefully you're question was answered, or any response to this will help you.

I have a a flowmaster 40 series muffler on my max and i love the sound. From 0 to 3,000 RPM it sounds like a mustang or camaro coupled with my stillen intake. But after 3,000 RPM it loses all volume and i can no longer even tell that I do not have a stock muffler. Is this normal, or does it have anything to do with the stock resonator or something. I just would like to have that sound past 3,000 RPM. I am probably be putting on a y-pipe and cat-back within a couple months, I was just wondering if there was something easy i could do to get that sound all the way through the RPMs. Thanks.

I've had a stock exhaust on my 4th gen. budget Y, hiflow cat, no rez on budget B. Very annoying... sounded like the muffler was about to split open at the seams... I had a 5th Gen variable muffler installed. The drone was awful and the flapper inside the 2nd tailpipe was slapping around while under 25% throttle. I then put a resonator on. I loved it. I could hear the CAI again. Exhaust was quiet again.

After SC'ing, I wanted to get rid of that 2" inlet attached to the 5th gen muffler (the rest of the system was 2.5"). I got a 2.5" magnaflow muffler. I could tell right away that this muffler flowed better than the 5th gen stock muffler. Little drone above 3K RPM but not too bad. Pretty deep tone.

Removed the rez to make room for the exhaust e-cutout... now the car sounds like s##t. I'm waiting to get a shorter rez and have it installed later this week.

IMO, if you want a quiet exhaust with no drone, make sure you have a resonator and the muffler will not be as big of a deal.

I got a 2.5" muffler so I can upgrade my bpipe eventually. Might as well keep your options open.

All the universal brands such as Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Dynomax will not be quiet without a resonator! All the other car-specific brands just have their own exhaust tone but not necessarily quietter. I can see how a very deep exhaust note would be quitter than others. Like someone already mentioned, go with a big resonator. With that you can quiet down just about any muffler you throw in your car.

The 5th gen muffler isn't an aftermarket one. I believe the thread topic is calling for the most quiet aftermarket muffler.

I second that one, I have not yet heard a loud dyno. super turbo muffler. I know several people who have them and they are not loud mufflers. My friends truck made NO additional noise from switching to it from stock.

I am also going thru the same thing right now. I just had an exhaust put on my car. I have a budget Y-pipe>>catco cat>>2.5" B pipe>>Magnaflow 14" resonator>>brospeed (bosal) muffler. The muffler sounds like a tin can at idle, it sounds fine when you crack down on the throttle but it is too loud at low RPMs. There is a guy selling a Greddy EVO muffler off a civic that I may try to pick up. I only have experience with the Greddy SP and I am not familiar with the EVO. What would you guys do? Get the Dynomax super turbo? Try the Greddy? Also on the summit link the the super turbo is offset, do they make a straight thru model? The reason I ask is because I just had my exhaust put on yesterday and it is set up for a straight thru muffler, so it would be more work/money to put an offset muffler on. Thanks for any advice.
