Ok, The Y-Pipe performance is wonderful. I see better acceleration and better overall performance. However, the problem I am having is this sound whenever I accelerate. The sound is most heard when I am stopped and accelerating through 3rd gear. I know that the Cattman Y-Pipes are supposed to be quiet, but I think that the flex section is messed up or something. However, the flex section looks fine. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks

First off be more descriptive...

When you say "The sound is most heard when I am stopped and accelerating through 3rd gear." What sound are you talking about. Is it the infamous "bees in a can"? Or is it a hissing sound? I've been watching this y-pipe thing for a while now and it appears that Cattman's customers have the least complaints. Not saying anything bad about (WSP, or "$tealin") but I'll be in the market soon and would like to know as much as possible about these y-pipes. So please give a better description. Plus I'm sure each of the respective manufacturers will gladly assist with rectifying any manufacturer defects. Right? (here I give credit to WSP and Cattman not so sure about "$tealin")

Ok, I know it is not a hissing sound because my CAI does it when it is dirty. But I guess you can call it a "bees-in-a-can" sound. I know Cattman y-pipes are not supposed to do it, but it is. I am in NO WAY "putting down" the y-pipe because it is a great pipe, however, it sounds like it is coming from the flex section. Anyone know of a cure? Thanks all.

My CAI hisses, so that means its dirty?? It started doing it about a month after it was installed. So, if I clean the K&N filter, that his will disappear?? Or, is the dirt somewhere else?? Come to think of it, it can't be the filter. It was only a month, and I have checked it. The filter was not amazingly dirty, just a bit, that's all.

As for the Y-Pipe, I just ordered that cattman Y last week on special. My greatest concerns were also noise and that was part of the reason I chose cattman. I think I've heard of some threads mentioning a header wrap that goes around the Y-pipe flex section to reduce the noise. I did not think that the Cattman would need it, but maybe it does.

People seem to have had success using header wrap around the flex section. Some have even wrapped the entire pipe.

My WSP pipe had a little bit of 'the bee's'. I wrapped some header wrap around the flex section and it's all gone. It's about $24 or so at www.summit.com plus you will need metal zip ties, which run about $7 for six or so of them, which is all I needed. Part numbers- DEI-010202 for the lock ties, and THE-11001 for the wrap. good luck.

most or all cai's hiss. its just the turbulence going through the piping.

That's what I figured. I wonder Why I ddin't hear it when it was new, though. I hope its because I had such a lead foot (oh boy did I! I was flooring it just to hear that CAI growl!) that I didn't give it a chance to produce the sound

Bees in a can

In case you haven't seen my previous posting. Dallas and I have finally got our hands on the very newest lined flex sections. Just came out. I have about 1K on my car now with the new flex, very little if any sound from the flex. We will be using this new section on our mandrel bent pipes. We are also talking about offering y-pipe owners who have the buzz, a "replacement kit". Yes, that does include the Cattman and Stillen pipes. Will keep you all posted.
