Pics of CE's revised 95-96 red/clear taillights

Well I thought they fixed all the bugs, but I guess not.

Gap on the trunk light

Black lip not butted up against trunk

Light shines through, water may leak in. The Oem's have a differnt design in the back that it has a flat surface to butt up against the trunk and for the black sealant to adhere and seal it from water, CE's dont. The arrow shows the black line which is the sealant. I only did one side and said forget it to the other side. Tomorrow Im getting ahold of CE to see if i can get my money back.

That's too bad they didn't work for you! Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

Yup, these look real tacky on my car IMO. I also dont like the fact that the cavity isnt opened up in each lense. It makes it to where the whole lens doesnt light up, just the middle. I was debating to which tails to put on my car since I also purchased some all clears from Bacardi528. Guess I dont have to decide anymore.

I don't know much about these tail lights but can't you take them apart and use the stock ones for the parts that go in the trun & just use the lenses from CE to put them together?

Something to look into. You would still have to come up with a defuser for the top and possibly the bottom part though.

I concurr, that looking for a fix might be a good option as I don't think that you will be getting your money back for those. One suggestion would be maybe to get RTV or a silicone sealer to seal the lights to the car. They are easily removable and reapplied. Another option, if you are so inclined is to make those into LED lights....that would look kool IMO.

Well, the bulbs are mounted at an angle on a flat back plate on the OEM's whereas the CE's are mounted straight in. The whole bulb is exposed in the lens on the OEM's. I duno if there would be a problem because it might not line up the same and you could possibly see the whole bulb including the bottom metal part. I dont think swapping the lenses could be done right w/out modifications.

Tinting your tails is illegal. But if you want to risk it just for looks, it's all yours.

I'm willing to bet that fitting the CE lense on top of the OEM housing won't work. Remember how the CE tails fit versus the OEM which mean that shape-wise there will be minor difference but enough to make fitment difficult or undoable.

Depending on how dark your tails are, some cops could give a damn about it. In California, most cops are **** here. It still doesn't change the fact that its illegal.

Custom fabrication?? I have one of the first pairs of the first batch and I had water problems in the driver's side taillight, I just took it out and sealed it. Now it's fine.

I suppose that works for you and could work for others, but there's no reason to have to fabricate or modify any part that you buy from a "reputable" (term used loosely) company, if you're using said part on the correct application.

IN other words, if I buy 95-96 tails, I want them to fit my 95-96 out of the box. If they don't fit, don't sell them.

That sucks, I just got the revised lights from CM and was just about to install them but after seeing this post, I am just gonna return them. Luckly I brought a set of lights from barcardi as well. Let me know if you have any problems with returning these to CM.

I returned mine 2 days ago. Waiting for Barcardi's tails, I can't believe I'll have my hands on an all clear lense. My only concern is opening them up so that I can paint the lower portion of the tails red.

Wow thats some bad fitment, and bad build quality. I definately dont regert the 97 lid swap now.

If they havent gotten it right by now, I dont think they will unless your willing another huge gap of time again.

Any other testimonies on the tails from the second batch? It seems like we have only seen one from maxspeed (taillight sticks out) and one from Nismo (moisture). I received mine last week. I suppose I should try installing them.

that's too bad, if it weren't for those gaps, then i'd think they still look pretty good. For the price, DavidL's aren't all that either ... too much white at top, and with these tails, the black trim around sorta events that out. Not to mention you have to get just the right coat for the davidL to make em look good.

By definition the David L's already come with the right amount of coats because....er..... David L did it already.

Dude, that BLOWS...

CE/CM should refund your money...I had some big issues with them buying the front end clears....sigh....after paying like 20 bucks shipping em back and forth, i just decided i didnt want clears...hence the reason i still dont have that mod done haha

I would say; try to get the inner peices replaced with different ones if you wana give it another chance at fitment. Maybe another set wont be as different...i havent seen anyone have fitment problems this bad...

BTW, i still have your Tq wrench. I can drop it off sometime next weekend, ill be looking for a drive somewhere to finally test out my car...sigh...i had to send both calipers back...i hate my life...

Good luck with whatever you do on the tails tho.

Well, I emailed Greg at CE on the 27th and so far he has not contacted me. I just called them and he was on the phone supposedly and I was forwarded to his voicemail. I left him a message and also resent my original email to him. We'll see how long it'll take for him to get back to me, if at all. So far, I'm really disappointed with them.
