Did I get porked?

Due to a couple of circumstances, I had to pay a shop to replace an O2 sensor(Bank 1, sensor 2) and they charged me $270. It was an oem part from Nissan @ $150. Seems like alot..............I feel violated.

What are the circumstances? That is alot of $ but what do you expect from a shop? You could have done it yourself, an 02 sensor socket is like $10

If that is all they did you got porked. The shop should only take 1 hour to do the job. So they charge about $120 for labor. Did they also do the diagnostics?

What price did they quote you before you took it in?

Brand new Bosch OEM equivalent sensor from www.oxygensensors.com $70
O2 sensor socket: $10
Time to replace O2 sensor: 30 mins (including jacking/lowering the car)

Paying $270 for an O2 sensor replacement:

But there is the unknown "circumstance" adjustment... no point thinking about it now, you're back on the road

this thread is worthless...you allready paid so the damage is done ... why not take a look in the stickies before you pay a shop to do something that can be done in about 2 hours

I hate how people post whatever they can think of .... people need to post more things that are useful, interesting, or really in need of fixing/repair

The reason people get aggrevated with threads like these is because you didn't post BEFORE you paid to get it done. It's kinda useless after the fact, especially since you already knew that you were paying too much. What else can we tell you?

Okay, you're down Rt. 495. I've seen the signs but never knew where it actually was. We should meet up some time.

Suspension Install

While we're on the topic of hardware, is $300 for a suspension install decent? Or should I say F it and buy the tools and take a day off and install it myself?

I don't have a jack or jack stands. I have sockets and all your basic tools. I'd need spring compressors too. And probably one or two other tools.

oh yeah, basic strut and springs.

But in all seriousness, i would go back to the shop with a comment of price gouging. I know it won't matter anyway, but some shops dont like the negative press from the Better Business Bureau. Or you can do like some people here, if you have a local news station that has a "consumer help" segment. Try that, maybe they can put some pressure on them. (That is if they dont offer any type of deal/refund. -WHICH YOU KNOW THEY WONT)

If you make yourself the "victim" and complain loud enough. They will make it right. Even the best shops cant afford to lose money because of the negative stereotypes that already surround auto repair. And by complaining, you would be reinforcing that point.

Im stepping off the soapbox now, ive got to go poop.
