suspension = neverending

Important info in bold for ease of use.

So my current setup is the D2 Coilovers. I have a SERIOUS clunking coming from my passenger side. On very rough bumps it sounds like there is contact being made. I have made adjustments several times but this has only kept the noise at bay for around a week.

I have mainly just tightened things up, measured and set the preload as close to driverside (silent) as possible, mended and properly set the spring isolators, as well as other minor thngs.

The mounting bolts are all VERY secure and the spring isolators are good to go (no groaning metal on metal sound) so this is really bugging me. The fact that the driverside is silent and I have gotten the pass. to be relatively quiet makes me think that the actual coilover is ok.

Can anyone actually tell me what is happening? The noise SOUNDS like its coming from up around the strut tower but could it be inside the coilover itself? Anything I can look for in the upper mounts? More preload? Less preload????

Thanks for any help you guys may have.

well, after reading on this, the SR20, and Zilvia forums I have determined what I already knew, they arn't crap.

there may be a problem with the pillow ball mount, could be a tad loose, other than that blown strut would be the other possible answer . . I am not sure what I could do there as I got these WITH the car.

The problems have been traced to the oil used in the shock as well so there are a few possible situations.

The thing that is weird is for about 4-5 days I had a handle on it.

If you could find out what I would have to do assuming the strut was blown and I needed a replacement. I am not the original buyer, but they are also not very old . . .

hopefully we can try a few things first

Sure thing....
If you want to talk to Justin himself his IM screen name is UrbanImportinc2... Mikes is UrbanImportInc..... but Justin would be the better guy to talk to.....
I'm going to talk to him this weekend either way, but I thought you might want to try and talk to himon your own since you could give him more information than I could about the problem.
Hope everything works out!
Mike

Please dont post about things you know nothing about. D2s are far from crap.

Freeway, if it turns out you need a replacement, try contacting Urban Imports, or even D2 itself. A friend of mine bought a set of D2s from another friend, not from a company, and he was able to get 2 replacements sent to him without even showing any proof of a warante.

I had D2 coilovers on my Maxima also, and could not seem to isolate or fix the noises those things would make. Good luck with fixing them.

I just talked to Mike... I asked him if he could get you a replacement strut:
"yeah thats no problem.. I am out of them right now, but check back with me in about 1-2 weeks and I should have them in. Tell him to shoot me an e-mail with his year/make/model, and his symptoms (just to make sure that it is the strut). We'll get it all figured out."

Thanks,
Mike

ACtually i dont think its the coilovers themselves. Mine make the same noise as u described it on the right side as well. Im running S-techs and koni yellows so i dont think the coilovers are at fault.
MAximus95 did u ever experience any noise when u had the s-techs before u sold them to me? It might be the upper strut mount but i didnt have time to check. Make sure everything is tight!
