Bose code

I'm considering putting the bose unit back in.
How does one go about retrieving the radio code from the dealership? Calling to ask is simple, but what info do you need?
1). VIN #? Even if I supplied my VIN #, what if the radio came from another car, obviously with a different VIN #?
2). If its not the VIN # you supply, then is it the serial # on the radio unit itself? If this is correct, wont they give someone a hard time about ownership. (ie. They might think that the unit was stolen and not want to provide the code since the serial # wont match the one that was originally in my car).
Does any of this make sense? If not, then just answer: what do I need in order to retrieve the radio code, and how do you determine if the radio is requesting the code to work (LCD isnt displaying)? Thanks

I cant begin to understand your post. If you bose isnt working and you need a new one, go to www.ebay.com and search for a working bose any year from 95-99 wil work in any 95-99 maxima. Dont buy one from the dealership it will cost almost as much as a new motor from a junk yard.

I already bought a used one last week from ebay, and just received it today. I plugged it in, and it just started ticking at the ignition(there was a tick coming from the ignition key unit). I turned the key to the off position, and then back on. The tick came back. But the radio never came on. After doing this a few times, there's no tick anymore. And the bose HU still doesnt work. I checked all the fuses that could pertain to the HU.
I asked about a code, because most cars have anti-theft codes for their HU's. I didnt use that word, which may be why it was confusing. So do our cars have anti-theft codes? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere a few weeks ago. Otherwise, are both HU's bad?

Really? That makes no damn sense (not your comment, but the fact that it may be true). But ok. I plugged in the antenna. I guess I now have to take everything apart again to make sure that its plugged in. Yay for the POS.

Any other suggestions?

That should do it, I had to reinstall the Bose 2 years after I took it out because the Pioneer decided to die on me. That ticking is the security system , as soon as the antenna is unplugged it goes off, something to try to prevent theft I guess.

What do you know? It actually worked. It still makes little sense, but whatever. My antenna was broken inside the cable, which is why it wasnt activating the radio after it was plugged in. Thanks guys.

So you put all back togather before turning it on and testing it?
