Weird clunking noise - need some help
So just as the title says I have a weird clunking noise when I give the car gas. The noise it makes it similar to the noise you get when you run out of gas, or something its like a minor sputtering noise, but with metal clanking. Anyway, I just passed the 60K mark and have done all the 60K maint. Oddly the noise isn't continuous it seems to go away after a few minutes. Doesn't have anything to do with the car being cold or warm either as it does it sometimes when I stop and then go again.
I've had this issue for awhile now and have seen no problems because of it, oddly around the time I first noticed it I had my oil changed and the dip stick gave a reading of 0 meaning there was no oil in there at all, which is also weird since I don't have any leaks and the car never had issue even around then before I got the oil changed and was told there was nothing in there. In any event, after my oil was changed the noise went away for about 500 miles or so and then it came back. I've checked and changed my oil and its still happening. If anyone can help me out with what it might be that would be great.

For me, one of two things come to mind...It sounds like either you need engine mounts replaced or refilled...Or..
You have rod knock and your engine is toast.
You can check for engine mounts (Sorry if you already know this) being the culprit by opening your hood, putting the car in reverse (with your foot on the brake of course), and then shift it into Drive fairly quickly and the engine will transition its weight and the clunking sound should present itself if infact the engine mounts are toast.

I tried check for the motor mount issue as you said, but that seems to be ok. As far as it being rods, wouldn't I show some other signs if that was the cause? Keep in mind this has been something i've heard for quite some time now so if the engine was toast I probably would have noticed by now I think.
